Save Folder View As Default: Save the current folder view settings as default folder view (used for any folder with no specific folder view).

Memory-wise that'd be the highway to hell. Windows Explorer shows (at least under XP, not sure about Win7) this when it becomes slower and slower and fatter and fatter after some days of usage with this setting activated.

I'm surprised you would say no to a reasonable option like this when your software has a record in needless settings among all categories of software.

Ideally the user decides the program's footprint. XYplorer.exe (that's been running for a day) show 50 peak private MB and 0.10 peak Ghz, that's 0.0016 and 0.005 of my max. I can therefore afford this suggested feature.

The current Folder View Settings-list is already editable: View > Folder View Settings > Manage Folder Views.

I'd ask you for examples but there have been some slightly heated threads recently already about settings and tweaks. Suffice to say I don't agree with you there: XYplorer gets used differently by a lot of different users, which allows the developer to *sell* it to lots of different users. Economic necessity and all that 8).

Speaking of features, performance is an important one. I don't disagree with you in principle, but even with beefy hardware you can get serious slowdowns in specific places with several applications.

My problem is that a folder view (saved or unsaved) carries into subdirectories rather than the default view.

I suggest the default (if no saved exists) view is used when changing directory, rather than the view of the previous folder.

Thanks!

Good news: it's already possible to define a default Folder View Setting which is used for all folders that don't have a FVS applied.

Also, FVS's can be applied either to a single folder or to a folder and all its subfolders.

FVS can be found in View > Folder View Settings; alternatively, it has its own toolbar button which can be added.

BTW: a belated welcome to the forum! (I didn't check your post count first.)

I was confused by View -> Folder View Settings -> Edit -> Edit default folder view -> Auto-save changes. I should not auto-save changes for the default view. That's when the scenario I described occurs.

With this sidetrack cleared up I want to repeat my suggestion.

I suggest that selecting a non-default view setting (or selecting any view setting) automatically saves a folder view.

Not sure about this. I myself hardly use the feature and I'm not sure what heavy users expect here. I only know that the feature works as it is now for many years without any changes. So it seems to be ok for most users.

I see no harm in it, if a user can choose to enable 'auto-save individual folder views' .
XYplorer would then auto-save any folder view that isn't the default as soon as you choose it, and delete any custom view it if you set the view to the currently defined default.

It wouldn't have any impact on users who don't use it, and it'll let people who desire it have 'persistent folder view' settings without having to take the extra step of saving it for each folder.

OK, but for now I have to asnwer like this: The implementation of folder views is pretty complex. I did not touch it for years. And I won't do now. I cannot open too many boxes at the same time. Save your wishes for later.
