'..' in list view and sort order per folder

Post by klerps »

1) '..' as first item in the list of contents of a folder meaning (move to) the parent folder.

2) Remember sort order per folder

Thanks for this wonderful program :D

Welcome!
1) This was discussed a number of times. Please use the "Up" toolbar button or assign a UDC instead.
2) Use Folder View Settings: http://www.xyplorer.com/tour/index.php?page=fvs

Thanks zer0.
Can the using of and the auto-save of the Folder View Setting be default enabled for all folders?
It seems I have to enable if for each folder separately.

View | Folder View Settings | Save Folder View As Default ?

It is still required then to Save Folder View for each folder separately.

I don't get you :? If you want to have different folders looking differently then use FVS. If you want all folders to look the same then don't use FVS and just configure one view and make sure "Remember list settings per tab" is not checked. What am I missing?

Ok, I have Enabled Folder View Settings and through View->Folder View Settings->Edit... have enabled auto-save and made it default.

Now when I have c:\a and c:\b , both sorted on Name.
Then I go to c:\b and sort on Size, then I go to c:\a again and it is also sorted on Size, while
I want to stay it sorted on Name and then I move c:\b again it will again be sorted on Size.
The only way to do that is go to c:\a , sort on Name, use Save Folder View, go to c:\b, sort on Size,
use Save Folder View.

Have you tried enabling Auto-Save changes of a particular view?

Yes, but doesn't seem to work.
To put my wish a bit more clear, I would like the sort order
of a folder to be saved for that folder the moment I click
a particular column to sort on that column.

And "Auto-Save changes" does exactly that. From the help file:
Auto-Save Changes. If checked then any manual changes to the current folder's view (e.g. you alter a column width) are automatically stored to the active folder view and will be remembered the next time you come back to the folder.
It works for me, but you do have to do the initial save for each folder that you want custom views for.

What's wrong with that?

Yes, that is true. However, once you save it, check "Auto-save changes" and further changes will be saved automatically. Is the initial commitment -- for that you can assign a KS -- such a burden?

It's not much of a burden and it's not a big deal, but why not just have an option the make it the default behavior of every folder.
