Editing the recently used patterns in Batch Rename

Post by PK_normal_user »

Hi guys,

This is my first post here so please forgive me if this post happens to break some rule. I have just bought the license today.

I am wondering if it is possible to edit the items in the drop-down menu in the Batch Rename mini-window (under the "Enter a pattern for the target name(s)"). I noticed that it saves recent patterns that I used, but I see no obvious way to remove an item from that list. Also, I would like to know if it is possible to manually add multiple items to that list, aside from the ones that were auto-saved from my recently used patterns.

In short, is it possible to
- Add items to the list manually
- Remove items from the list
- Have a fixed list that I can control manually (e.g. turning off the autosaving from recently used patterns and have a list of, say, fixed 10 items)

If doing the above isn't possible, at least I'd like to also know how the list works.
- How many items can the list contain?
- Do the recently used patterns stay there in the drop-down menu indefinitely, or do they disappear after some time if unused?

Thank you in advance.

Menu - Tools - List Management - Rename Special: Batch Rename

There you can do the "housekeeping"

If you want a static part that doesn't change, add this line under the last static entry: -----> mru

Thank you so much! That is a lot easier than I thought.

I have one more simple question, if you don't mind. Let's say I create a list that I want, I assume that when I migrate XYplorer to another laptop I'm using, the list will follow there as well, right? I am referring to using the migration method explained in the FAQ page here https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=migrate

I am just a bit confused as to what actually gets migrated as well. I am thinking it can't be "everything" since, for example, the specific caches for thumbnails and the "Saved Folder View" shouldn't get migrated since the folders and files' structure will differ from computer to computer. Am I mistaken about this?

Yes, they are only XYplorer.ini entries
for example, the specific caches for thumbnails and the "Saved Folder View" shouldn't get migrated since the folders and files' structure will differ from computer to computer
Depending on where the thumbnail cache is (by default in XY's data folder) it will be migrated. But if it still matches depends on where the image files are on that new computer
Saved folder views: Depends on the folders exist...

Ah I see, thanks for the explanation. This is getting a bit further away from the original topic of this post, but may I ask if it is advisable to manually erase the data for thumbnail cache and the saved folder views, in care it poses some potential conflict with the new folder structure of the computer I'm migrating to?

Even if it doesn't cause any issue, I guess the data I'm talking about would just sit there taking up some space (although very small) since the files and folders it corresponds to don't exist on my new computer. Unless XYplorer deletes it automatically, I figure I should probably erase it anyway since it serves no purpose. May I ask where do I locate the data for the thumbnail cache and the saved folder views?

In XY's data folder by default: Menu - Go - Go to Application Data Folder

.\fvs.dat = Folder View Settings

.\Thumbnails\ folder if Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Cache path wasn't changed
