Custom/alternative application icon

Post by avivariba »

I've been looking for a 3rd party file manager for Windows given the default File Explorer often freezes loading files one at a time. XYplorer definitely seems to check all my boxes, especially after (un)checking its boxes (all the customizations). Thank you!

The biggest issue now, however, is getting rid of my memory when it comes to finding and managing the application on the Windows Taskbar. The application icon looks nothing like that of a file manager.

I found out that when creating a shortcut to the application and changing the shortcut's icon into a folder-looking one, that works when opening XYplorer from there. But when opening XYplorer from any random folder directory (with it set as the default file manager), it will obviously show the normal application icon on the Taskbar instead.

I would love for there to be a way to select another icon to be used for the application (whether a generic folder icon making it look like a file manager or perhaps a custom/selectable icon.

PS: My biggest issue prior, which I spent far too long on to solve, was that all PSD files opened with Windows Photo Viewer when opening them via a double-click (opposed to using the Context menu > Open / Edit / Preview which all opened it in Photoshop just fine). Apparently, this was set up and active under Custom File Associations. I highly doubt that is supposed to be the default behavior.

There is a tweak for this:

Code: Select all

; Tweak: custom app icon
IconFile=<xyicons>\xy.ico
