Safety option for Tree - disallow delete etc

Post by Anstil »

[I've searched for this and didn't find anything. Apologies if this is redundant.]

Wish: Have an Safety Belt option that will disallow "direct" folder operations, such as copying, moving, renaming and most crucially, deleting in the tree pane.

Reason: Over the years, I have several times tried to delete some files in the file pane (using shift-del permanent delete, of course :( ), only to find out too late that the focus was, for whatever reason, in the tree pane, resulting in the permanent deletion of the entire folder (and sub-folders). It doesn't happen often, but once is bad enough, as you can imagine. Given that I rarely perform folder operations in the tree pane (and almost never delete), I would personally be OK with entirely removing this possibility. Since others will obviously disagree, I would be happy with having this as a safety option.

Thanks.

Just use this tweak:

SetFocusTo=1

https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=tweak

Once you've clicked an item in the tree the list pane is automatically focused again

and additionally:
Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Safety Belts | [x] Disallow left-dragging from folder tree
Configuration | General | Safety Belts, Network | Safety Belts | [x] Disallow delete by key in folder tree

Thank you for your response, highend.

"Disallow delete by key in folder tree" seems to be precisely what I wanted. Since I now see that this was introduced in January 2019, you can figure out how much time has passed since I've updated XYplorer. Goes to show you, if it ain't broke, it still might be worth upgrading. :)

The tweak looks interesting; I'll have to try it out.

My initial "wish" now seems unnecessary. (Except for a "Disallow all operations by key in folder tree" option, where "operations" means delete/copy/move/rename, ie anything which actually changes the underlying stuff. But as mentioned, this is much less crucial for me than disallowing delete.)
