transfer from W10 to W11
Hi all,
I bought a new Windows 11 computer and copied the folders over from my Windows 10 computer exactly. When I open XYplorer on the new computer, I always get a note saying, "Your license doesn't cover this version." The version shown is 28.30.0300. The version on the old computer is 27.20.1200. It also says it's a 32 bit version but I know it's 64-bit.
Am I not a permanent license holder? I bought a license. Why won't the original version open? Thanks.

So 28.30.0300 is out of your time frame, it has nothing to do that it's a 64-bit versionBonus: The Standard License includes
free upgrades for one year!

Re: transfer from W10 to W11
Either that or you use the “Upgrade to Lifetime License Professional” version to get rid of that 1 year free upgrade for “ever”

Thanks Highend. So it sounds like my license wasn't a Lifetime one. Wish I had known that.

Re: transfer from W10 to W11
Your current license is a lifetime one: It never expires. But it doesn't contain lifetime upgrades. Hence the price difference

Re: transfer from W10 to W11
You can continue to use the XY version you paid for, that will always be available to you. Open XY on your Windows 10 pc to find out what version you're running, then install that same version onto Windows 11.
However, if you want updates past the 1 year provided by the standard license, you will have to either pay for another year of updates or upgrade your standard license to a "lifetime license", which will then include updates for life.
The naming is confusing, as "standard" and "professional" are kind of an oxymoron, so they cancel each other out... Not to mention "updates" (xy versions) are different from "upgrades" (license upgrades), but even the buy page uses the two interchangeably... Also, all licenses give you lifetime access to at-least the XY version you paid for, but the use of lifetime in "lifetime license" refers to how long you'll receive updates, not the actual duration of your license

Re: transfer from W10 to W11
Thanks everyone.
I checked my current version and it's 27.20.1200. I works just fine for me. I downloaded and installed this version to my W11 machine. When I open it, I'm told I have a trial version for 30 days.
Do I need to edit the .ini file and add my license code?

Just copy over your config folder from your other system, then you don't have to configure anything
Menu - Go - Go to Application Data Folder
That's the folder to copy (the root) dir and make sure it's in the same path on the new system, normally
And / or read: https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=migrate

I did that and it opens fine but at the top it says I'm still on a 30 day trial. It's as though I'm copying the .ini folder to the wrong path!!

On the new system: What's the path?
And you've made sure that you've copied everything from the old system's path into this one?

New system path is,
C:\Users\acre9\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer64.
The source path which is,
C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer64
My name is "Lee." The only difference is the name Lee vs. acre9. Sorry to be such a pain!

No, you've said that your old and your new version is the 32-bit one so you have to copy:
C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer
to:
C:\Users\acre9\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer
C:\Users\Lee\AppData\Roaming\XYplorer
