Hi - having been about to buy Directory Opus which I ahve used before, I read a review on 5* review on XYPlorer and am trying it out now. It looks and acts brilliantly except the area I daily rely upon. When I try to use the file previewer, then a) I seem to be stuck with the small area at the bottom of the screen for the preview, i.e. unlike Wiondows Explorer I cannot view the file at a decent size on the right-side of the window; and - worse - when I do try to preview many file types, it won't create a preview but opens a dialogue box instead that opens the file in its native program, e.g. MS Word or Acrobat. Weird - and not making me believe this is the very best Explorer replacemnt of all time (-; .
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The Info Panel (of which Preview is a tab) can be maximized, leaving (on my PC) two lines of the file list to navigate further. Please see Menu bar: Window > Maximize/Minimize Info Panel. It's currently not possible to have the Info Panel on the right side.scampo wrote:When I try to use the file previewer, then a) I seem to be stuck with the small area at the bottom of the screen for the preview, i.e. unlike Wiondows Explorer I cannot view the file at a decent size on the right-side of the window;
XYplorer co-opts Internet Explorer's or if you will, Windows' native preview functionality; that's what generates the dialogue boxes. It's not something I use myself, but I'm sure others here will have further information.scampo wrote:...and - worse - when I do try to preview many file types, it won't create a preview but opens a dialogue box instead that opens the file in its native program, e.g. MS Word or Acrobat. I do hope you find XYplorer to be useful to you; this forum wouldn't be so busy if it weren't for many!

Hi and welcome!
Regarding a preview area on the right and better preview of Office files, they are planned for 2010 as per this thread: http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=4382
As for your issues with Office documents being opened in their native programs, there is an FAQ entry: http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=office that contains a possible workaround.
Kind regards

Thanks for the replies. The program is superb in every way except this one; and it's a biggie for me. Both Microsoft and DOpus recognised the need for good file previewing - and for me nothing comes close if you have a lot of docs. I will wait till the new release. It's such a wonderfully "clean" product that I think with the proper previewing facility - and no need for "workarounds", then it wil be a winner.
