Hi!
I'm searching for a replacement of Windows Explorer, which has gotten very weird in Windows 7. I like XYplorer very much, but there's one function I don't find - MP3 (and WAV, WMA...) length, bitrate etc. column. I also can't find a resolution column for pictures, just some basic columns, like date, attrib...
Thanks!

Those columns are not yet supported, but there is a huge audience for this feature and its infact coming sometime soon. See the XY roadmap for upcoming features. http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=830
Meanwhile have a look at menu "Tools>Configuration>File info tips" and enable mp3 info tips. On hovering a file with mouse you will see some important info.
Do keep posting if you need help, and Enjoy XY!

Wow, that was a quick response!
Without these columns I'm ''dead''. I work on a radio station so I deal with a lot of sound files, and I've gotten really accustomed to these columns.
I really hope you'll add these soon, because otherwise XYplorer is really a great replacement!

Hi and welcome to the XY forums for me as well!South Park wrote:Wow, that was a quick response!
Yes, we tend to try and reply promptly here when we can! That's part of the appeal of XY...the support level!
As I recall, part of reason why Don was hesitant to add these (I think) was that it can cause delays and thus may affect performance.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Yes, XY indeed is a great replacement because its very flexible to user needs. Just to make it clear, I am just a user here, the author of XYplorer is Don and that link was his todo list. Usually features get implemented quite fast compared to most other apps. So stay tuned and you'll probably see this coming soon.South Park wrote:Wow, that was a quick response!

Thanks again! For now I'm also trying D******** O*** (you know which program I mean), because it has these options, but overall I really like XYplorer's interface, especially file/tag rename utility.
So if you're concerned about responsivness, just make these columns as an option and if anyone will want to use them, they'll just have to deal with it

Re: MP3 length, bitrate etc. column
While I am just as eager as you are to have these columns, it is important that every feature performs well. While the location of files (local or remote) and type of storage device (solid state disk, orthodox magnetic platter drive or tape) are likely to be more important, the manner in which this functionality works is also key.South Park wrote:So if you're concerned about responsiveness, just make these columns as an option and if anyone will want to use them, they'll just have to deal with it
For example, what I don't like is how XYplorer needs to look up icons for EXEs before navigating to a directory. I'd rather it'd go into the folder and then retrieve the icons (like WE does). Likewise when it comes to extra meta-data columns, the retrieval process doesn't begin until you're in a directory. And it would be even better if said process is branched out into a separate thread [in XY] to allow the list to be managed
