Expand dest node in tree

Post by zer0 »

In two minds about this one: it's either a bug or I misinterpreted the description of this feature. In my Config, it's unticked (I also use full tree, not Mini).

1. Enabled 'Show Tabs', created an extra one, selected it, went to a deeply-nested folder.
2. Switched back to first tab, collapsed the tree nodes that expanded as I went to folder in step 1.
3. Clicked on tab created in (1) and tree expanded all the down to the nested folder.

Should that have happened? Methinks that it should not, because setting is unticked (factory default, I believe) and I went through a tab, which would fall under 'any means apart from using the Tree'. Or I misinterpreted the description  ?

The setting refers to the selected node in the tree. Changing a tab does never auto-expand a node. Is that the bug you mean?

Correct. A tab may refer to a directory nested in a node structure that was collapsed, but selecting that tab auto-expands it back.

Well, that's ok. How else should the node be shown in the tree???

But the tab change does not auto-expand the node itself, which might be seen as a bug - but I think it's okay.

It's a bit concerning, because of me interpreting things the way I did. In addition, why does a node have to be shown in the tree? Interesting aspect with Explorer in Win 7 (maybe poss in earlier, but can't recall) that I noticed is that if I click on 'Recent Places' and double-click on a directory there it opens, but tree doesn't expand. Governing this behaviour is an option called 'Automatically expand to current folder'.

Quiet handy, if you ask me. Having it in XYplorer will allow me, for example, to have a selection of tabs with the left-most being a central download location and the remaining tabs being folders to where I will distribute those files. Simple Drag and Drop. The tree will remain tidy, instead of having nodes expanded all over the place, especially if those folders are on different HDDs. All in all, it's a good blend of powerful XY tabs and organisational simplicity :D

hmm... Haven't you ever heard of the Mini Tree? Enable it from menu View|Mini Tree|Mini Tree and see how awesome it is! ;)

I have come across MiniTree. There's no denying its awesomeness to those who benefit from such a feature. However, I am not in those ranks. I like it old skool: normal tree, single pane, no tabs and AB just because I can't put more CTBs in its place. My own version of the 'KISS' principle :P

Yes, or lock the tree and and will never grow again.

Right. Grow or scroll, for that matter...

I thought that 'Lock Tree' will be too draconian, but having played with it I think it will suit my needs. Thanks!
