Why freeze when importing?

The answer to this may be really obvious, but searches on the forum and on Google turned up nothing, so here I am...

Why does XYplorer (and incidentally Windows Explorer as well) enter non-responsive states when a file is imported into another app via DnD?

For example, I have a large WAV file that I DnD into Audacity. I have to wait for Audacity to process importing of that file before I can do anything in XYplorer/Explorer. Is that some system restriction or [annoying] feature? After all, when opening files, by dbl clicking them in XY/WE, neither freeze while Audacity imports that file?
