I really enjoy XYplorer but there's one thing that I can't seem to find or understand why it's not an option.
The size of the buttons in the toolbar is way too small. Is there an option to change the size of the buttons / icons like in IE or FireFox?
If so, can some one please tell me where to find the option to change this? If not, can someone please explain why this is not an option?
This application offers so many functions and customization options how can something such as this, which is so simple, not be offered.
Please let me know.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!
see http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic. ... icons+size
See also this thread which has some links to prior threads (and Don explains a bit why he hasn't done it before)

There have been quite a few threads about this subject before so finding a prior one shouldn't have been hard at all...I did a search for "toolbar icons size" to find them.jeffklein wrote:I really enjoy XYplorer but there's one thing that I can't seem to find or understand why it's not an option.
No, there isn't an option presently...and guess it's a matter of personal opinion as to size...or can it be due to user's system? As on my older 1024x768 laptop, it's just fine and I've having some eyesight/vision issues, so I'm not saying you don't have a problem, just that it's not an issue for all, ok?The size of the buttons in the toolbar is way too small. It's just something that hasn't been done yet...but based on this very recent thread, it seems to be not that far off...If not, can someone please explain why this is not an option?

My theory is that it's not been a major issue to us who often frequent the forums and/or compared to other features that make XY unique, it was very low on the list and thus hasn't been implemented yet. This application offers so many functions and customization options how can something such as this, which is so simple, not be offered.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: Toolbar button size
Welcome to the Club Jeff!
I think this topic will be revisited when Don will start implementing Custom Toolbar Buttons. I'd like a change in size too. Currently, there's no Undo option so if we don't have it when we get CTBs then there will be an issue of them being quite small. At work, I have two 24" monitors side by side, so an tweak/option to increase their size would be welcomed by those who have spare screen space.

Re: Toolbar button size
Lying on the beach I decided to do this next!
Question: it appears to me that "large" toolbar buttons are sized 24x24 pixels conventionally (e.g. in Firefox). Is that enough or should they even be bigger?

Windows Explorer gives you the option to customize your toolbar. They offer small icons (30 x 30) and large icons (40 x 40). The sizes quoted are the tool bar sizes. The icons are presumably a bit smaller.
I checked Firefox and the default toolbar size is 40 pixels in height so it is consistent with Windows Explorer. You have the option to select small icons in FF as well.
The point in all this is to offer larger, more usable icons. I would go with the larger sizes detailed above.
It would improve the usability of the application greatly.
Thanks

Re: Toolbar button size
I was referring to the icon size proper. The toolbar is higher of course.jeffklein wrote:I think they should be even bigger than that.admin wrote:Lying on the beach I decided to do this next!

In Firefox:
Small icons: 16x16, toolbar 32 high
Large icons: 24x24, toolbar 40 high
In XYplorer:
Small icons: 16x16, toolbar 24 high
Large icons: 24x24, toolbar 32 high (in future)
I've never seen a toolbar with 32x32 icons, so I think this should suffice. Of course I could show icons of any size by stretching but the quality suffers a lot at these small sizes, so I rather use hand-tailored icons for each size (bloody lot of work)

Re: Toolbar button size
Fiddling with the layouts, I noticed an, personally, unwanted side-effect of having large toolbar buttons.
If you were to enable large icons, then Toolbar becomes wider and AB gets "padded" by empty spaces at the top and bottom of it. However, if you were to hide the toolbar then AB will stretch itself from left edge to right edge but that extra empty spacing will not go away. And it should go away so AB will be "slim" again because it's a result of the toolbar config, which is no longer visible and its settings shouldn't affect AB when it's hidden.
I know I'm being picky over a handful of pixels, but I remember people making a big deal about things like that, especially on screens of small sizes. Not to mention the logic of the whole thing
