Preview ought to have a Mute Button
While cleaning the HD of the flotsam and jetsam of audio/video files accumulated over the year it would have been very utilitarian to have a Mute Button on there. Yeah, that can been done with the Vol slider but that is inelegant and unprofessional for a program that has everything else.

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
Yes, given the recent addition of the media controls, it would make sense...however, I just realized/discovered something that may affect it.
Here's the setup:
1) I have my "Master Vol" at max as well as my "Wave Vol" as background since I'm using built-in laptop speakers so need it loud.
2) I'm presently listening to a streaming video from Stickam and have that vol control at about 50% or so.
3) Have XY vol at 100%
4) And I see that reducing vol via Win Audio in "Wave" affects both of these which makes sense.
5) Went to XY and started playing a mp3 file...audio thus was conflicting with Stickam audio...so adjusted XY vol down...that also reduced the Stickam vol! Not good...
6) Hummm...so muting XY would thus appear to impact another audio source... so how do we isolate XY audio vol?

Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
i agree mute is always a good option, j_c_hallgren i dont see why it would conflict unless admin made it use wave output instead of dsound, with dsound all the sounds are seperate from other sources, I havent really messed with it much but it could possibly be a codec issue too

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
Humm...now seems we've discussed this quite some time ago! A button under slider was first idea but I also suggested right-click on Vol bar...Here's thread and this post where Don said "later"...well, I think now is later!

looking through that thread is looks like people suggested a right click option, why not just make a small icon next to vol (like a speaker) that can be clicked to mute / unmute

Not "people"...As I pointed out in my thread with that link, it was my idea of right-click as quicker implementation alternative (to a button which was at that time dismissed), but which now (given new control buttons) makes more sense...noir wrote:looking through that thread is looks like people suggested a right click option, why not just make a small icon next to vol (like a speaker) that can be clicked to mute / unmute
I was simply pointed out that particular reply by Don where he says "later", and given the amount of time that has elasped (almost 2 yrs) and those new control buttons, I think it's very appropriate/timely to bring up the topic again.

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
Is the mute button on it's way?
I got an additional wish for the preview of video files. Would it be too much hassle to add a speed control slider, allowing to run videos from 1/8x to 8x of their regular speed?

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
Personally, I think that's pushing the envelope a bit too far. Introduction of playback speed control functionality is getting awfully close to blurring the line between preview and actual view and borrowing too much from a dedicated player. Feel free to disagree, of course, but it sounds like a "nice to have" rather than "need".RalphM wrote:I got an additional wish for the preview of video files. Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
Well, I wouldn't have made that wish, if I had found a decent player, that covers all needs.
Either they don't play .mov (Quicktime) files or they lack in single frame +/- capabilities.
Played around with MS Media Player, VLC and Media Player Classic.
After getting MS Media Player to play .mov files, I could easily view them in XY's preview as well.
Now the only thing missing to make XY all I need to view these files was speed adjustment capabilities - so I asked for it.

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
I think something is a bit off with the philosophy of that. Forgive me if I'm misinterpreting this, but it appears that you have not found a DEDICATED player software that fulfils your requirements and you'd like XY's preview to meet those requirements. I believe that inclusion of those features would go beyond the scope of what is normally defined as "preview". Have you attempted to persuade developers of those players to include said functionality?RalphM wrote:Well, I wouldn't have made that wish, if I had found a decent player, that covers all needs.

have you tried MPC Home Cinema?RalphM wrote:Well, I wouldn't have made that wish, if I had found a decent player, that covers all needs.

it's an independent version os MPC (i think).
it plays mov files, has speed control and framestep +/-.
if you still can't play quicktime files with it then i guess you simply don't have the right codecs.
try downloading "quicktime alternative" or a codec pack like k-lite.

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
MPC Home Cinema was the one that came the closest - meaning it does everything I mentioned, but we had some issues installing it on a couple of our company notebooks.
I didn't dig much further to figure out what made it not working on those machines, just thought, "if XY can do it all apart from the speed adjustment, why not ask whether it could be added..."

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
Well, I quickly looked and yes, I actually could do this. Just not sure about the interface (a speed control in the GUI would be BLOAT deluxe). OTOH a tweak is probably not a very usable option for this, or?RalphM wrote:I didn't dig much further to figure out what made it not working on those machines, just thought, "if XY can do it all apart from the speed adjustment, why not ask whether it could be added..."
And, uh, how many licenses did your company plan to buy again for the XY speed control edition?

Re: Preview ought to have a Mute Button
No, a tweak wouldn't help much, because it's a rather dynamic setting, which should ideally be adjustable while playing videos.admin wrote:OTOH a tweak is probably not a very usable option for this, or?

I would rather think a slider control would be the right thing.
Remember? I'm still waiting for the cascading catalog http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3181 before I take the next step to propose replacing WinE by XY company wide...
