Got Quite A Few Wish List Here! NEW HERE.

Post by JamesT602 »

Okay like I said im new here, this is my very first post. Now I try to read search etc to find solutions to my problems before I ask or request for features etc, but since I only have so long with the trial version and my days are jam packed so I have so little time to actually tinker with this to get it to power-user mode for me but with that being said I have found some things I wish were present or just made alot easier.

In order from highest priority "I NEED IT NOW" to "it'll be nice but ehhh if it dont happen",

1. GROUPING!!!!!! I know I know you can assign color filters to it but that isnt the same as a simple grouping that will state for instance "TODAY, YESTERDAY, THIS WEEK, LAST WEEK, THIS MONTH, LONG TIME AGO" How windows does when you group by dates. Remembering all these color codes and all that is just a tedious way to do it. What if I was color blind? lol (no disrespect to those that are). PLUS If I wanted to group by date and use Ascending for the grouping but also sort files by date but use descending for sorting the files theirs no option or work around to pull that off with XYplorer. The color coding is nice but extremely limited because you can only "group" the whole folder content as one and not subgroup like windows explorer does with its grouping and sorting the files independently inside that grouping at least by dates. Group By Date created, Group by Date Modified, etc etc I do like the color coding just doesnt work for my particular use case.

See what I mean, its just makes life so much easier grouping this way, (also an option you can probably already do is to change the font size of the grouping labels (underline red) independtly of other text so it stands out a bit more).

2. Custom Thumbnail sizes. Right now its preset are 32,64,128,200,etc etc but for me none of are the right sizes. I'm using 128 and its good size for teh actual contents (files) of a folder but in a root folder with nothing but files I would like to set the thumbnail size to something custom to maybe 100x100 or 96x96 or who knows what size Ill have to play with it but right now all I know these sizes arent it.

3. Uniform size Previews for EVERYTHING and ability to assign it a location on the xy axis. What I mean by uniform previews is that for all the previews to take up the same amount of of space, an option to set the height and width but to keep the preview native aspect ratio, and to position the preview to a dedicated spot reason being is that some of us are using split screen software and have a designated preview screen. this only as a additional option to the way it is now cause I like it how it is aswell.

4.. F11 going fullscreen is always nice when you just want to bonker down and dedicate one monitor to your file explorer and start doing what you do. But has to keep tabs visible cause thats a must to be able to navigate to preset tabs on the fly. Think firefox in fullscreen mode, you know how the tabs are still there something like that will be great. Or a borderless windowed mode but with the tabs still there, or like notepad++ Post-it mode (F12) but with the tabs still there. This is another great feature I think needs to be implemented for sure.

5. SEARCH TOOL BOX, yeah I know I can hit f3 and quick search box comes up but having that lil dialog box on the upper right is always nice and also would like it in a way to where it doesnt take up another level butinstead is on the same level as (row) as the tabs.

NEW NEW Edit: I striked out 3 request as they can be done already just not in UI so much but through tweaking .ini which I have no issue with. thx jupe

New Edit; Up again back at it, I added a image to better clarify what Im trying to say, changed a few request added some new ones. I see huge potential in this as far as my use case, its a great program as is but there is a feature request section and this is what I'll love to see added.

,okay thats it for now, ive spent about 4-5 hours tinkering with this and its way past my bed time falling asleep in my chair tyring to be throughly in this write up, so yeah be great if you can implement those features im sure im not the only one looking for them, and Ill be around willing to test betas with these features in em and all that. Thanks.

2) You can set custom thumbnail sizes via a tweak, this is the key: ThumbSizes=

for instructions on how to tweak:
https://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=tweak

4) You can script XY to change the layout to only display the panels that you want, you can get rid of everything except the titlebar pretty much, lookup setlayout() in the scripting help, or test out the Window menu switching panels off before scripting it to turn them all on/off in one action.

5) Have you tried the live filter, Alt+F3 will display it in the bottom left corner of the status bar.
