Previewing PDF files

When I try to use the preview pane on pdf files, I get garbled text/code as shown in the attachment. Can someone help me get the program configured correctly to display PDF files correctly? I have the full version of Acrobat on my computer so I can always open the files, but I just want to be able to quickly preview files without opening them.
