Nice try Jacky, really gave me a chuckle...

But I'm with you guys on this one. I say Go! as well, makes XY more predictable, me thinks.

I know you already did it, but I vote another "Go" as well as it makes sense.

hmm... okay little wish about that one: it would be great if if worked for "Copy of..." files too, as in when you Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V some file(s) (or D&D for that matter) in the same folder.

I know. However, in this case I let the OS do the rename-on-collision, and it does not tell me the new name :(
The only solution, and maybe better anyway, would be if XY does the renaming itself (and follows the user's settings for this as stated in the PostfixNum key; hell, I have to lift this key to the config dialog!).

So so, hear hear! And what part of it is it that is not perfect? :P

PS: but thanks for mentioning XY there! (here: http://alexking.org/blog/2005/01/27/win ... eplacement)

Actually that's where I found XY in the first place, so it seemed fair to call Alex on his bashing of all file managers mentioned there, as he *still* hasn't posted what this miracle perfect file manager that he's discovered is.

The curious thing is that Mr. King does not recognize that XY is exactly what he is looking for, and even is not what he is not looking for(*). He seems to 100% share the XY philosophy but does not note it. :? Maybe someone should put King's nose into that... (his site is extremely popular...)

* What Mr. King is not looking for in his own words:
Two (side by side or top-bottom) explorer views
File viewers
Built-in FTP client
Creating and viewing zip files

Agreed, but you have to realise that it XY consumes more than 1KB of RAM while running, doesn't automagically organise his files for him and won't bring him warmed slippers in the evening either - so it's not good enough :P

I reckon this FM he is getting from "another developer" is mythical...

This is how I would expect it to work.
I'll change it if I get one more "Go!" and no "Stop!"

AFAIK it only does not work (for now?) when copy/pasting on the same folder (with autorename "Copy of...")

Yes, when the OS does the autorename to avoid a collision, i cannot do it because the OS does not tell me about the new name.
