How do I add labels to Droppable User Buttons?

Post by Sander Bouwhuis »

I saw there was a new version with custom button functionality.

Currently, I use a catalog to have shortcuts to often used places (e.g., temp dir), but I would like to use buttons for them. My problem is that all the location-based buttons display a folder icon. So, I can't tell them apart (I've set up about 15 locations).
How can I set the label for the buttons?
Or, how can I use labels instead of buttons?

I'm afraid buttons of whatever kind, can only be displayed as icons; no text support is available.

I'd like this myself and AFAIK it should be technically possible with the components XYplorer uses. I'm curious what the rationale is for this limitation?

Is it not possible to use different icons for those buttons to differentiate them apart?

I can't speak for the OP, but by the time you have 10 buttons for destinations or scripts that belong to the same group (e.g. different subfolders within an accounts tree), 10 buttons with the dollar symbol don't really solve anything. :)

I seem to recall an observation by Don that the human brain can process images much faster than text, but especially for user buttons I'm not sure that advantage outweighs the disadvantage in this case.

Text labels would be fine instead of an icon.
I could create labels with the locations they are pointing to. E.g., 'tmp' for temp folder, 'rb' for recycle bin, 'pic' for pictures etc.

Yep!

What kind of text can you fit in 24 pixels?

Admin,

Even one or two letters could be more meaningful to the user.

Personally, I would prefer the ability to use custom icons. Then, I could insert icons that imply these functions more than the stock icons do. I might even substitute the stock icons with those from other programs that I've become accustomed to.

But, custom icons wouldn't work for my case. I have about 15 folders. How am I going to use icons for them?
Three letters would be helpful (tmp, mus, pic). More would be even better.

Custom icons are possible already! Use the Icon field.

Conc. the labels: I just added them. Works nicely.

I'm going to nitpick but shouldn't custom labels line up with the drive button labels?

Currently the custom labels are a pixel lower.

Oh, I just re-read the original question: I though he meant ALL of the buttons!

"Personally, I would prefer the ability to use custom icons." ..."Custom icons are possible already! Use the Icon field."

Back in my hole!
