When my browser fetches the IFRAME contents, Facebook records it. Without my consent.Even if someone is not a Facebook user or is not logged in, Facebook's social plug-ins collect the address of the Web page being visited and the Internet address of the visitor as soon as the page is loaded--clicking on the Like button is not required. If enough sites participate, that permits Facebook to assemble a vast amount of data about Internet users' browsing habits.

Is it? To which?[/quote]Doesn't look like it is to any in particular, at least according to source code. I would suggest replacing it with this codeadmin wrote:First of all, remove the code at the bottom of the main XYplorer page, because it is pointing at another Facebook profile.
Code: Select all
<iframe src="http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?app_id=207569529283112&href=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fpages%2FXYplorer%2F197770266933943&send=false&layout=standard&
width=450&show_faces=false&action=like&colorscheme=light&font&height=35" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:35px;" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>
Sorry, but that's FUD. If you load a page with that IFRAME, your browser will make an HTTP request to Facebook to fetch the contents of that frame. According to Facebook's privacy policy, they may record browser type, IP address and contents that you view. All of those 3 are bread and butter of the HTTP protocol: browser type is the user agent in the connection, IP address is needed for obvious reasons and contents is what you GET in response. By visiting the page that contains this social element, you agree to view content displayed on that page. There are ways to stop it from loading, but that's up to you.tux. wrote:http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-20006532-38.htmlzer0 wrote:The only information that is sent to Facebook, from my understanding, is a request to fetch the IFRAME with its contents. Re: XY on Twitter
It's not that they know that I visited a site with the Like box, it's that they profile me. Read the link again.

I think the code is ok. It's not about liking my facebook site, but about liking the XY homepage.zer0 wrote:Doesn't look like it is to any in particular, at least according to source code.

And you read this: https://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=17512 If you feel that they indeed "profile" you, I would recommend not to visit the page. Personally, I have no privacy concerns.tux. wrote:It's not that they know that I visited a site with the Like box, it's that they profile me. Read the link again.
I think it should be about liking your Facebook site, so that when updates are posted to your site, users' News Feed would reflect that. It results in more relevant social integration. I have never encountered a like button that isn't tied up to a Facebook page.admin wrote:I think the code is ok. Re: XY on Twitter
I would stop visiting such sites if I knew they use illegal spy boxes. There is no way to know this before visiting the particular pages. So that's why I suggest you to not even think about it. For the users.zer0 wrote:If you feel that they indeed "profile" you, I would recommend not to visit the page.
Re: XY on Twitter
.tux, I'm done discussing this with you. You clearly have your own paranoid agenda of spreading FUD. I suggest you disconnect from the Internet if you're concerned about websites "tracking" you.tux. wrote:I would stop visiting such sites if I knew they use illegal spy boxes. There is not a choice "privacy or internet". It is not paranoid to state that users seldomly want to be tracked illegally. FUD, eh?

Re: XY on Twitter
sorta -- when you visit FB site, you'll see their postings on your feed...i use it to keep up with some news sites, like local paper and radio station, etc.admin wrote: So is it like this: When I press a Like button that points to facebook site it's like subscribing to a news feed about that site?
but I only see the postings on FB site -- not in any other places.
Addendum: I've found FB to be a good way to keep up with various organizations/media/businesses/friends/etc...it's replaced email for some people I stay in touch with because other common friends can comment also.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: XY on Twitter
Good effort. I would suggest that you bring those teeny weeny buttons from the very bottom of the page to the top alongside the Facebook and RSS feed buttons. They are small enough to be unobtrusive, you won't get much use out of them otherwise.admin wrote:OK, thanks. Should be better now.

Re: XY on Twitter
I kept some half-heartedly below because I'm unsure of their use and reputation. So you say it's cool and useful to have them up there right "in their face"?zer0 wrote:Good effort.
