I know you plan to develop handling zip and rar files. May I ask (if itis not a big effort) to start with preview? Many times I only have to know the file names in the archive to decide unpack or not. There are many compression tools to unpack compressed files (using shell extension menu for example), so I can live without full handling of these kind of files.
In preview pane? By tooltip? Or something else? All the same. If you agree with me that this is important, I believe you can figure out the best way.

OK, it was just an idea. I am waiting patiently. Actually, I cannot do anything else, because I have already commit myself to XY.Sorry, I do rather all in one.

You can already preview zip files if you add .zip to CustomOfficeExtension (pretty sure it's that one) tweak.
