NEFs from D700 show as bad image icon

PS - Switch off Super Fast because the Preview seemed to Pause before displaying so thought it may be a time out problem.

When you preview a NEF on the Preview tab, does it say "Preview by Shell" or so?

Try this: open Configuration | Previewed Formats | Image Files and uncheck NEF in the list of file types. This will force using the Shell for thumbnails creation in Preview and Thumbnails.

EDIT: Correction: It will force using the Shell for thumbnails creation in Thumbnails, but NOT in the Preview. It will actually prevent the files from being previewed on the Preview panel. Obviously a better solution is needed here...

But don't you get a message "File type excluded from preview" and need to press a button to preview it anyway?

I just click on a Thumb in the view, Hit F12, Select the Preview Tab, and wait a few seconds.

Ah Ha - But if I close F12 - and then hit F11 I get a - this file has been exclude from preview in configuration.

And a Left Click Hold brings up a Preview

Hi There

I am getting a "Bad Image" for all my NEFS (D70, D70s, D80,D90,D200 and D300)

I can view the Files (Thumbnails) in Windows Explorer and also in the F12 Preview Pane (Its comes up with Cannot Decode and then a pause later displays the picture)

have you ticked Configuration | Thumbnails | Show thumbnails for non-picture files?

A bit strange to define non-picture files for picture files
As .nef are (Nikon-)picture-files in RAW-format.

I don't know if you remember: .nef have imbedded thumbs for preview.

Ah yes, I see now, thanks. It depends on the system. On my system the shell cannot preview NEF and I get the button I talked about. Built in smartness has been smarter than me...

Anyway, next version will give you an option for a smoother handling:

Code: Select all

    + Tweak to force shell preview for file types of your choice. For 
      example (list of extensions separated by dots):
        DoPrevShell=dng.nef
      This will force shell preview for DNG and NEF files on the Preview 
      tab and with Thumbnails.

It does work but oh man is it SOOOOOOOO slow to build thumbnails (and Preview and Long Click to Show Preview).

And compare to Windows Explorer it is really really slow.

Takes ages to build 150 odd thumbnails whilst Windows Explorer take seconds.

Would you like me to pull a video together showing what I mean ?
