I saw that in the changelog during my research and was encouraged that having it in the past would support a case to bring it back. Shame that you've sent it to the back of the to-do list :(
Having read that small discussion that lead to its removal, do you still think the idea is good?
I do. My situation is different because not one of my tabs in either pane point to a parent/child of another tab, like they do in TheQwerty's example. And even he thought that, since it's rarely encountered, it wasn't worth changing.

OK.

Do you agree that only tabs with "Lock Home Zone" set should be included in this feature?

I may be wrong, but reading that other thread, and my vague recollections, I don't believe that prior feature was user optional and that would have a definite impact...if it's forced on all, then I could see objections but if user set, then no complaints.

Also, having this working on single pane for now would seem to be a step forward if the dual pane option is being added shortly later.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

That's right. Also it only set in when the current tab was locked, which would be not the case with the feature wished in this thread. So there are some differences.

Yes, I agree that only tabs pointing to locked Home Zones should be affected by this feature.

Should the feature only apply when you navigate by Tree?

Speaking for myself, yes. However, others may wish to extend it to AB, catalog, UDC and scripting "go to", etc.

Ok. Then let's hear the others...

More questions:

1. What if you are in an unlocked tab and you go UP to the parent in the tree (or by other means). Should we now also scan all tabs from left to right, pane 1 to pane 2, looking for one with a matching homezone? Wouldn't this be counter-intuitive (compared to simply staying in the current tab)?

2. Same case as 1 but the current tab has a locked homezone which matches the new location. Should the current tab be preferred (checked first, get priority), or should we always look from left to right, pane 1 to pane 2, for the first match?

3. I'm generally willing to add this feature, please inspire me concerning the caption of the checkbox that will enable the feature. I'm totally out of ideas...

Didn't we say that this applies only to locked tabs? So if you're in an unlocked tab, you should be able to go anywhere and stay in same tab.

Why wouldn't the current tab be the only one that gets used in that case?

To link it to this thread for future ref, maybe just "Bind tabs to location"?

As it is an unlocked tab, staying in it seems more appropriate.

Theoretically, no 2 tabs should have exactly the same homezones (making searching redundant), so the current tab would be preferred.

Caption is likely to vary depending on which section of configuration you would put it in.

Ah! So JC is right that the mechanism should only be triggered when the current tab is locked (and a new tab would be opened in the current XYplorer)?! I did not see that in the OP...

And even if someone wanted two tabs with same homezone, why would you evn consider searching/switching to the other one if the current one matches?

Addendum: If you're using this feature and you're ask to go anywhere within the range of the locked zone, then you don't go to another tab...if the location is within range of any other locked tab, then you switch to that...if it's totally out of range, then open new tab....that's how I believe this feature would be handled.

Addendum 2: It's been ages since I turned off captions in XY and now have even forgot where that option is  but that brings up an issue: I don't believe "caption" is in Help Index so finding it is difficult...maybe add that term to Index?

I hope that by "locked", you mean locked Home Zone rather than location.

That wasn't exactly his issue/question...it was that there are two variants of 'locked" (Home zone -and- location) and that this feature would only apply to Home Zone ones, right?
