Despite being able to frankenscript a solution, I still would like to see the official, supported and stable way to do the same achievement - sometimes with a prejudice to flexibility, but certainly with a less error-prone, future-proof behavior.

EDIT: *Not to mention easier...
There was never a need to go down a dedicated yellow script road, because assigning CKSs to scripts hits UDCs square on the head. If clicking is preferred, then we have CTBs. Of what specific advantage(s) is having an additional menu entry that remembers scripts across sessions when UDCs and CTBs already provide such functionality?

One is completely free to play without the hassle of each and every time having to do a different go there > enter name > enter script > select CKS just because of a... temporary need, which vary from minutes to entire days, constantly.

So why not make current ways easier and more user-friendly for both frequent edits and set-and-forget situations? Adding another way without improving existing approaches is hardly efficient.

P.S. It is possible to assign CKSs to CTBs ;)

Well - this implies whole GUI redesigns, I'm afraid, and Don would likely not consider doing that anytime soon...
Despite the current discussion on an exception regarding "save" for this feature (which I'll probably lose  ), I'm happy with what it currently does (CKS'able Run Script Again).

...to one or two individual commands among a few stored on both left and right mouse click buttons?
Please tell me HOW?! I looked up and down after this with no avail thus far...
Thank you!

So what? :P Adding bits here and there would just make things bulky without definition. We're already seeing side effects of this due to an addition of Extended in Configuration as a result of options' overload. A big problem is that a lot of users don't look at the big picture, they are more concerned with getting functionality that does a task they need.

Use button SC. You can specify either right or left click and other options.

Yeas, we are. :P (that's when "innovation" comes into play... if the reality can't fit innovation, things MUST go really bad for reality... generally speaking, Don. lol)
To clarify: if an extended 2, extended 3 and extended 4 fields are required, "so what"? lol The bigger picture to me is: where else I could look for if I'd want to achieve the same tasks XYplorer *already* does, making my file management the most efficient I've ever experienced? I'm not kidding when I tell that I'm really expecting a time machine so I could go back in time and avoid this injury in my arm due to excessive (avoidable, as XY proved to make it possible) work on computer. And I'm talking majorly on features that only came into light this year (2010)... I really expect that some day a seed will grow up into a leafy tree so I'll have the perfect file manager I've ever dreamed of. Until then, I'm already really happy with what XYplorer currently offers - but the "extra" taste is what it COULD do IF (your favorite wish of the day here)...
Use button SC. You can specify either right or left click and other options.
As I recall and at a first (second?) glance, that thing does not impress me - not in the ways I could have use for it, assigning CKSs to mini-scripts stored side by side on a single button. Not a big deal, though (not until my UDC gets completely crowded and I'm unable to sort scripts under submenus - another wish! lol). Thanks for the tip, anyway - I'll focus on that later.

Cool tip for the new "Run Script Again" command.
Set a script on "Run Script"; set the files you want to process item after item with that given script; put this into address bar, press "enter" and enjoy the show:

Code: Select all

::#755; focus; sendkeys'{down}'; focus a; sendkeys"{enter}";
(of course this was made attempting to circumvent my current inability to write scripts that work on several items at a time... )
Below a modded version of the ReadURL - XY Detagger, Offline Mode to work along with this tip.
