GMail Drive
I just installed GMail Drive and the "folder" doesn't appear in XY. Would someone please tell me how to get it to appear?

Re: GMail Drive
I'm afraid GMail Drive uses Windows functionality that is not yet supported (though planned) by XYplorer. For now, you'll need to use Windows Explorer to access the GMail Drive functionality.Tom wrote:I just installed GMail Drive and the "folder" doesn't appear in XY. Re: GMail Drive
As a workaround, you could try creating a button/User Defined Command with the following code:
replacing "GMail" with the proper GUID for it, i suppose. (can't reproduce it properly once I don't use GMail, sorry)
Code: Select all
run "explorer.exe /e,C:\GMail"New User's Ref. Guide and Quick Setup Guide can help a bit! Check XYplorer Resources Index for many useful links!

I've tried several different things and it just goes to "My Documents"
But thanks for the suggestion!

Re: GMail Drive - Solution - Dropbox
I found a solution - Uninstall GMail Drive and get a free Dropbox account. Shared folder appears in XY and it works great!

Re: GMail Drive - Solution - Dropbox
Tom, this is not a solution per se. It does not solve OP's problem of being able to access GMail Drive's contents. Instead of a user switching to a different service, it would be preferable for XYplorer to be able to show such a non-drive device. Thankfully, such is planned under Support for Non-Drive Devices roadmap entry.Tom wrote:I found a solution - Uninstall GMail Drive and get a free Dropbox account. OK, so technically, its an alternative.
I posted this to help people in a similar situation.

But as Tom is the OP, and Tom finds that the acceptable solution is to switch to a decent service instead of a hack to use GMail's space, then it does solve the OP's problem.zer0 wrote:Tom, this is not a solution per se. Does it solve XY's problem? No, but if the user no longer has a problem (and indeed has a better working solution than what they previously had), then how much of a problem is it in XY?

Granted, I missed the fact that Tom is OP, but it's still a workaround, rather than a solution.TheQwerty wrote:But as Tom is the OP, and Tom finds that the acceptable solution is to switch to a decent service instead of a hack to use GMail's space, then it does solve the OP's problem.
It's not always necessarily a good thing that a user switches to another service. The more people do it, the less incentive there is for Don to add support for non-drive devices, I wonder how many think of thatTheQwerty wrote:Does it solve XY's problem? Re: GMail Drive
But the majority of non-drive device requests that I've seen here over time relate to local hardware such as cameras that don't have any alternative as easy as this so there is still plenty of demand for it, I'm sure...and thus incentive for Don.zer0 wrote:It's not always necessarily a good thing that a user switches to another service. Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Using an Explorer is an alternative and one that Don hasn't been afraid to whip out on a number of occasions.j_c_hallgren wrote:But the majority of non-drive device requests that I've seen here over time relate to local hardware such as cameras that don't have any alternative as easy as this so there is still plenty of demand for it, I'm sure...and thus incentive for Don.zer0 wrote:It's not always necessarily a good thing that a user switches to another service. Re: GMail Drive
I don't see anything wrong with this, or are you insisting that people use a service that may not serve them better just to affect Don's priorities?zer0 wrote:It's not always necessarily a good thing that a user switches to another service. So a significant number of us should be running XY in Windows 98 just to ensure Don has incentive to keep it supported? And that number should be equivalent to the number running Windows 7, and equivalent to the number running a super secret pre-alpha version of Windows 8, so that Don has equal incentive to support the dying, the current, and future technologies.
Now in this particular case, I've noticed fewer and fewer non-drive devices, and not a lot of demand for access to the other special locations that should become accessible if Don were to add support. I would hope Don adjusts his priorities to match. (Adjusts - not eliminates from the roadmap.)

Re: GMail Drive
Not exactly. It depends what's more important/possible/better: using a service or using a service through XYplorer.TheQwerty wrote:I don't see anything wrong with this, or are you insisting that people use a service that may not serve them better just to affect Don's priorities?zer0 wrote:It's not always necessarily a good thing that a user switches to another service. Re: GMail Drive
I seemed to have opened up a can of worms here.
Let's see - I tried out a program that wasn't compatible with XY. I posted on the forum for help and found it wasn't yet supported. No big deal. So, rather than wait for Don to be "incentivised" to add functionality, I went and found an alternative solution. One that happens to better meet my needs and be compatible with XY. Its a natural progression.
I posted a followup back here to help others in the same situation. But, then get nailed for not being technically correct with my choice of words. Get a grip. This is a HELP forum.
I don't see what the big deal is.
