Hi
I have 4 external HDD's with many Directories and files.
When I run up and select one of the HDD's, I have to wait while it reads all the Directories and contents and on a 750gb drive it takes some time.
Is there anyway of running the drive but not reading all the files. Just displaying the directory tree.
I would then be able to select the directory I want and then read just the files in that directory.
Can anyone help please.
Thanks
Reading External HDD's

Re: Reading External HDD's
I assume you have Show Folder Sizes enabled? Are you aware that you can disable this?

Re: Reading External HDD's
This could also possible due to external HDDs spinning down in periods of inactivity. I know that I encounter similar delays with my external (and even internal) drives. There are proggies out there -- you can even do that with scripting -- that write a little file to a drive every so often, which keeps it spinning...and reduces its lifetime, unfortunately.

Re: Reading External HDD's
Hi Admin
No I don't have Show Folder Sizes enabled.
Hi Zero
No, it is not the external hdd spinning down in periods of inactivity.
HDD is off and disconnected until I need to access one of the directories.
It's the time taken to run up and go through reading all the directories/folders etc.
What I want, is HDD to run up and show the directory tree, then I can select which directory to open
At the moment, I'm waiting for all of the 750gb of info to be read, before I can select just one file.

Re: Reading External HDD's
Can't you just click the plus-symbol in the tree to expand the drive node and then click the folder you want to browse?barnowl wrote:Hi Admin
