XYplorer 64-bit?
XYplorer is prominently advertised as being "64-Bit", but upon trying it with several different computers running Windows-7, and one running Vista-64, it appears to act as if it is merely "32-Bit".
The test, passed by all other "64-Bit" file manager applications, is the display of the Window's "System32" folder. 32-bit file managers (such as XYplorer v.9) will not display the "System32" folder, but will instead display the "SysWOW64" folder via redirection. Also, 32-Bit File Managers, including XYplorer, fail to display context menus properly.
Our workgroup has many individuals interested in the purchase of a genuine 64-bit file manager replacement for Windows Explorer. Unfortunately, at present, it appears that XYplorer does not pass the test. As long-time users, we were quite disappointed in what appears to be misleading advertising by the XYplorer creators.

Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
I've never seen it advertised as such and the http://www.xyplorer.com/XYplorer-PAD.xml which is used to supply into to other sites doesn't say so either...and the 3rd item in "Features" section of http://www.xyplorer.com/faq.htm specifically states it's a 32-bit appl.wwr wrote:XYplorer is prominently advertised as being "64-Bit"
FYI: Don, is the only creator so there are no creators but what concerns me is your phrase "long-time users" since you also say you are interested in purchasing XY...you can't be a long-time user of XY without buying it as trial period is only 30 days so can you explain this conflict? As long-time users, we were quite disappointed in what appears to be misleading advertising by the XYplorer creators.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
Perhaps the OP is referring to the last sentence on the home page "And yes, it is Vista and Windows 7 compatible, incl. x64." Obviously not stating it's a 64bit app but it's definitely says it's compatible. I recently upgraded my home machine to win-7 x64 - it was win 7 x32 before and I miss my context menus. Another thread says that 32bit apps can only display 32bit context menus, fine as most of my programs are 32bit but they don't appear in XYPlorer. And I am a long time, well 2 1/2 years, registered user. The thought of having to return to using windows explorer is nauseating but not having most of my context menus is going to force it. Ah well, at least my work machine is 32bit, which it turns out is good since living without XY on that machine would be hideous. And yes, I have two licenses.
Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
You wouldn't even need two licenses.mgalusha wrote:And yes, I have two licenses.
As an individual person, you need a license to use XYplorer. This license grants you a non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use XYplorer on any number and kind of devices.
Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
Yes I understand that, but one is registered to my company and the other to myself. While I could have used the company license on my PC I wanted to support XY as I use it constantly.Pagat wrote: You wouldn't even need two licenses. The license definition says:

I too have Win7 x64 but i get all the contexts here from 32-bit apps. Yes. I even went so far as to delete XY and the config file and re-install so as to have all the defaults. Same results.nas8e9 wrote:Also, is Configuration > Advanced > Default items only in context menu checked? It should be unchecked in order for XYplorer to display the shell extensions menu items.

Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
So you do not get a single 32-bit shell extension item in your shell context menu? Just to rule out any configuration induced problems: you have the same issue with a fresh (=factory default) "installation" of XY? (Just copy the EXE to some temp folder and run it.)

Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
Yes. I deleted by main XY folder and unzipped a fresh copy of 9.00.0010 and have the same result. The shell extensions do show up in windows explorer. Actually, I do seem to get a few odd ones, foobar shows up - if I have a .flac file selected. But the ones I use a lot like Notepad++, Ultraedit and Oxygen XML are missing. Perhaps something corrupted my extensions but they are their for windows explorer. Odd. I have re-installed some of the programs in hopes that they will reset/recreate their shell extensions but so far no luck. My work machine is 32bit/win7 pro and XY is as happy as can be as is my hope laptop.admin wrote:So you do not get a single 32-bit shell extension item in your shell context menu? Thanks for your interest, I'll get it sorted eventually.

I have this issue but with 64-bit shell extensions not showing in XYplorer. Tried the fresh copy as above but still same problem. This is very common question here lately (sigh!). I will try to make the FAQ even more prominent...
Generally I can say there will be XYplorer 64-bit, but not before 2011.

Re: XYplorer 64-bit?
My problem is that XYplorer 9 loads very slowly on Win7 X64 machive (Lenovo Thinkpad). It takes some 30 seconds to load, which makes in useles as file manager. It works well on my XP desktop. Is there anything I can do to make it load faster?
