Quicker access to XY "new items" in right click menu?

Post by TsunamiZ »

How about add quicker access to XY "new items" by putting them directly at the first level of the right click menu [instead of sub menu] and at the top of the right click menu?

Like in the screenshot from my previous file manager...

I find this very convenient for making new folders and .txt files from having it in my previous file manager. I know I can use hotkeys, etc. but I would very much prefer this method for it's convenience.

I would not like that. The context menu is already quite substantial in size, having new items in a pull-out menu aligns with Explorer's behaviour and one can trigger same menu's behaviour with a UDC/CTB.

or just add the 2: "new folder" & "new txt" since they are most often used.

btw: placing this in the top of the right click menu would be faster than using CTB.

If I had my way, I'd exchange the location of 'new/new items' with 'views/sort by' since I almost never use those as there are so many other ways to do those but limited ways to create a new item.

If we were to survey folks here, i wonder how many actually use those 'view/sort by' entries compared to using either KS or TB and/or clicking on cols to sort, etc. so moveing them down the menu shouldn't seem to be much effect...ok, so view is at top of WE context but it doesn't have as much choices in TB so...

A programmer's mind features only 0s (zeros) and 1s: either all or none are shown ;)

Who needs a menu for this?

New Folder = Ctrl+N
New File = Ctrl+Shift+N

People like me who try to avoid use of keyboard as much as possible and maximize usage of touchpad/mouse!

Like I said above, I'd agree with TsunamiZ in just proposing swapping the order of the menu as I think new/new items are more frequently used than views/sort by but that may differ for others...I click on cols to sort and use TB to chg view.

to me, the right click menu with the "new items" at the top is faster and more convenient than hotkeys. i would prefer them moved to the top of the list since they are very frequently used.

There's also a TB button for "new folder"... for the mousy men.

I guess that was the deciding vote. FWIW, and it's not much, I change the views more often than create new items.

the right click menu is faster than using the toolbar buttons. i guess its not a big deal whether or not the new items go to the top of the right click menu. because the top of the right click menu doesn't always show up next to the cursor--depending on how far down the screen you click. but i would really like to see the "new folder" and "new txt" be at the 1st level instead of a submenu--for quicker access.

I miss one statement from Don:
AFAIUnderstood i thought such modifications (read own context menu) can be archived with "Custom Event Actions" (CEA) ?
My assuming was wrong?

Right, with CEA you will be able to define a custom popup menu on right-clicking list white space.
