The Magnolias

Post by SkyFrontier »

...earlier ago I saw something about replacing them, any chance now that we are having a facelift...?
A girl friend asked me about "that gay flower on my toolbar", which is embarrassing...

 Well, they are just placeholders so why haven't you replaced them on the active TB? So unless she looked at the unused ones via Customize TB, that flower shouldn't be seen.

I only have one CTB right now and I use the XY icon itself via "<xypath>/<xyexe>"...there are a nbr of icons avail on most ppl's systems typically and I know there have been some threads here before giving some sites that one can find thousands avail for free.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

 You poor boy! What a gruesome experience. I immediately replaced the icon by something straight. Send my excuses to your girl friend!

Aaaaaah, what a fresh sensation...!
(ooops, THAT sounded really gay!) LOL
Well, thanks, Don. This way we helped tons of users around the world who simply just don't know what to do... with... their... errrr... buttons.
ROFL
Problem was that my ICON source is spread across two external drives, and that time some icons were unavailable - main interface icon had nothing to deal with. Now, I can... happily... sing...

But I didn't see any notice of this in change log...I think it deserves a brief mention like "changed default icon for CTB" or such.

But the other icons that were changed haven't been that radical of a change, true? The alpha stuff didn't totally convert, for example a flower to a star like this change, any other icons or did it?

Thanks TheQwerty! Almost all of the other icons that have been changed are ones that I don't use ...and until the app data/crash issue was resolved, I'd not fully updated from 8.80.28 except in a quick test so hadn't noticed the couple of icons that changed which I do use.

Addendum: :o Having a problem with the new "Home" icon!
It doesn't change (that I can see) to reflect non-home status as compared to old one that got lighter...when I navigate to another folder it remains as is so can't tell immediately that I'm not at my home folder.

Must be a problem with your calibration. Anyway, I made the disabled one a bit lighter...

Even looking at it from other angles (like more from the top or bottom) there wasn't any obvious of a chg in status...and I have no ability to chg any calibration on this laptop so appreciate the tweaking to help make it easier to notice.

I really like the improvements to new icons. In particular, the "Configuration" icon that is not only more visually appealing, but also has more definition as well.

An area where I would like to see some improvement though, is the tactility of TB buttons when clicked upon. Currently, when clicked/hovered over, the buttons still look 2D with icons doing the work of hinting towards a 3D object. Perhaps some better shading would make things better?

Also, I am slightly confused about TB button icons' action when pressed. They seem to move to bottom right-hand corner when pressed and back up to being centred when released. If TB buttons are two-dimensional and we're looking at them from bird's eyeview position, then moving a button's icon to bottom right corner is probably not the best way to indicate that it is pressed, because it's not indicative of depth. This causes an issue with "Sticky Selection" button, because, when enabled, it is in a constantly-pressed state, but its icon's position is centred in the square rather than being towards its bottom right corner

Yes, but keeping it fixed in the corner looks real bad.

Not sure about the shading. It's fine with me as it is.

I agree, so why move an icon at all? Viewing from above, it doesn't add to 3D perception and is quite atypical of standard button behaviour (the only case I know of is QuickLaunch area).

While we're on this subject, it would be nice if "Undo/Redo" button doesn't become pressed when clicking on the drop-down, since the action isn't on it. It's a split button, so depressing on the main arrow button should depress both, but main arrow button shouldn't be depressed if attached drop down control is actioned on as it's a secondary control. This is standard for split button behaviour ;)
