Remember setting "Full Row Select"

Post by Ennovy »

Hello to all members of this forum!

I have a question because I can't solve this myself.

The default folder view for XY contains a setting to use "Full Row Select" (also for all subfolders).
When I select folders using the minitree XY remembers this setting.
But selecting a folder using the favorites menu XY does not use this setting.
I removed all favorites and tried it again, but this doesn't help.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hello and welcome!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, so I'll try to dissect what I've read and you may need to clarify, ok? :)

First of all, 'Full Row Select' is a List setting and only applies to items in the List(s). You say that if you select a folder using MiniTree then you're able to select a full row, yet if you navigate to a folder using Favourites menu that List behaviour becomes impossible. Is that correct?

Theoretically, if FVS is disabled, I don't see how the List(s) would behave differently in different directories -- I just can't think of a way that it'd be possible. This leads me to believe that there is some subtext in your message, some detail missing...or I've misinterpreted yours words

Either way, drop us a post with your thoughts ;)

I have made a default folder view and that includes the option to use Full Row Select in that view.
Now in all folders I work with I can select files using the full row.

But when I select folders using the favorites menu, this option is not set despite of the default setting.
I have to customize the list again and activate the option Full Row Select.
So XY doesn't remember the default setting when I select a folder this way.

Excuse my english please.

Thanks for your help.

I see, so I was correct. Given that I can't reproduce this behaviour, I'm not sure that I can be of much further help. Incidentally, what OS and XYplorer version are you using?

Hi,

Please make sure that you first set Full Row Select, and then save the default folder view.

I did just that, but the "problem" persists!

I think I know what happens: When you go to a folder via Favorites, then XY first checks whether there are any tabs that point to that folder, and selects the first tab it finds. Since a tab properties overwrite FVS settings on a tab switch (in other words: a tab always remembers its last settings irrespective of any FVS) , the "Full Row Select" will be suppressed if the tab was not explicitly set to "Full Row Select" before.

What you can do to solve the "problem" is to either close all tabs but one, or explicitly set "Full Row Select" to all existing tabs: the latter you can do quickly by holding SHIFT while you select "Full Row Select" on one tab. That way the setting is applied to all other tabs as well.

Thanks Don, I had forgotten that trick actually. Phew! too many tricks up XY's sleeve. :D

I'm having a similar problem and it's really bothering me. I'm using XY 8.80 on WinXP Pro SP3. Here's what I'm doing

1. Navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32 (just as an example) and set all column widths as I like.

2. Enable "Full Row Select". (Hold down Shift when enabling "Full Row Select" or not; it makes no difference.)

3. Select View > Columns > "Define Current Column Layout as Default". Get the confirmation that the column layout was saved.

4. In the tree, click the C:\WINDOWS\system folder (again, just an example). All column widths change, and the "Full Row Select" option is no longer enabled.

Please advise.

Full Row Select is not a "Column Layout". Allow me to quote the help file:
Define Current Column Layout as Default and Restore Column Layout from Default: Each list mode (Browse, Find, Drives, Network) has an independent user default for column widths, sequence, and visibility, which is remembered between sessions. Note that sort order is not concerned here.

OK, great, but that still leaves me wondering why both my column widths and the "Full Row Select" setting are lost as soon as I navigate away from the folder in which I set them.

Edit: Never mind. Seems to work as expected now. Don't know WTH I did to make it work but whatever.

You are probably using a default FVS (Folder View Settings) with a different layout.

Probably, but I sure don't remember setting that default! And this was a clean install from just last night... Oh well, thank you just the same.
