Re: Dual Pane Wishes
I would like it if you could add the option of having the Box Color for the drive in Tree to color the background of the pane to the same color. I don't think it would be super hard to do. Just would make it easier for me click on the correct pane.
Thanks =)

try ticking "configuration -> interface colors -> aplly box color to list" and/or changing the "inactive pane" color.Znetworker wrote:I would like it if you could add the option of having the Box Color for the drive in Tree to color the background of the pane to the same color. Re: Dual Pane Wishes
Just one Q, Don:
Can I seperate the tree into 2 seperate ones (one for each pane)? As thats helps me a lot "jumping in my folder structure" as I'd need it..
If this option is not implemented currently, would it be possible? A setting which lets me choose to see 1 or 2 trees below each other.
Maybe I just did not find that in the config.
I'm really a experiences DP user, and I know how that option would help streamlining my (and others?) work..
Also: I still have the problem that the tree positioning (when changing tabs) is disturbing, as sometimes the Tree-Folder of the Tab I switch to just opens at the lowest end of the tree, so I even don't see the content folders in the tree w/o scrolling down..
I already have auto-optimize on, does not help with that issue..
Cheers, ReviewPilot

But did you ever try MiniTree? It's better... see http://www.xyplorer.com/tour/index.php?page=minitree

thx, RP
EDIT:
OK, I had to wait a minute till XY showed reaction after i clicked "MiniTree". Is that normal? I guess it has to build up the folder info?
Sadly, this does in no way solve my problems.
I will talk about this some more, as I believe a streamlined list/tree management is very essential for productive file management..
I have a vast amount of network and local folders, which I use all together, but I can not plan what I will use when. It's way more than what fit's in the tree (WAY more)
And sadly, it does not help if only part of the structure gets displayed, as it might be that tomorrow I need to overlook the whole structure of the drive/folder (and not just previously/currently used subfolders) in the tree to see & browse (maybe s.o. standing behind me and searching with me). I can't do all of that stuff in the cmd or list
- I access several dozen different locations a day, hundreds a month.
I, for my part, would really need 3 things more (sorry, this should not sound rude or demanding, as I LOVE your DP):
1) A Tree which does show all drives & the folder of the current tab expanded. BTW: Not all Tab's folders should be open at the same time in the tree, thats very annoying in the tree..
2) A tree which adapts its position to the pane/tab currently open. Don't know what the right positioning would be and how you do it currently, but often it just ends up showing a folder at the very bottom when the structure gets too long and I switch tabs, => I can't see the folders contents in the tree then.. I guess this can be solved alone by not opening all Tab-Folders at the same time..
3) A seperated tree for each Pane, as I might browse & show 2 totally different expanded locations in each Pane, and it just disturbs if the tree goes for both. I navigate seperatly.. One stucture has nothing to do with the other..
MAybe we can discuss this? Maybe I just need to explain it another way if you have problems to understand my issue. Is it very hard to implement 2 trees?
Thanks so far for your listening, Don,

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
I moved to Opus a while back and got a wild hair to check the progress of XY since I have a lifetime license. To my surprise dual pane has been added along with a ton of other stuff. It works perfectly and Im going to try now to switch back to XY. This may be innapropriate but has anyone considered Quad Pane?
(split the pane not only horizontally but vertically as well)

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
well, you mean 2 of the 4 being a tree and not a list? That's what I talk about in my post above..Riki wrote:I moved to Opus a while back and got a wild hair to check the progress of XY since I have a lifetime license. currently we then would have sth like a triple-pane

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
Sort of already possible by having 2 instanced of XYplorer running and stacking them side-by-side or on-top. That way you're also getting freedom over whether or not to have Dual Tree. Win 7 helps with arrangement if you're running it.Riki wrote:This may be innapropriate but has anyone considered Quad Pane?(split the pane not only horizontally but vertically as well)

Already tried this before DP arrived. Not working for me either. Believe me, if it would, I would have been using it for some time know
Still have XP.
What about saving tree & tab with 2 instances (for each)? And always having to enter adjusted settings for both everytime I change sth in config?
Also too much wasted place then..

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
Noone said this?
I'm sure to remember: Don said he would consider "dual-tree" later in a next level of dual pane. Or am I wrong?
I would love this, too!
And a tree-layout (i.e. which folders are expanded) remembered for each tab - but this isn't only dual pane...
Both contained in the list of ReviewPilot, as I understand it.

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
Considering I am someone who doesn't (normally) use tabs, let alone DP, would you mind enlightening me about advantages of having Dual Tree. Not for me specifically, but in general. Thanks

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
I'm not a DP user most of the time but there are times when it really comes in handy, like when working on two totally separate folders at the same time to transfer/sync items...so having dual trees is just an extension of that...zer0 wrote:Considering I am someone who doesn't (normally) use tabs, let alone DP, would you mind enlightening me about advantages of having Dual Tree. Back before I had any FM other than WE, I would often have 2 or more WE sessions open...but having to toggle between them wasn't ideal...I wished I could see both at same time...I had even used the old FM from W3.1(?) that allowed dual panes...so now that we have a DP FM, I can easily view both lists at same time but having to share a tree makes it a bit inconvenient at times...so having an option to have unique tree per pane would solve that...plus make us more competitive with some other FM's that get more attention.
Maybe that doesn't fully answer your query but it's my quick attempt.
It took me a bit of time to get used to tabs in a FM as I was SO used to having them in separate windows but I now use 2-3 tabs all the time...more than that and I lose track of what I'm doing...but i also use DP in SP mode so that I have tab set #1 and #2 in a way which works for my style.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
Perhaps, though the way it is currently appeals to me and it's only a click to switch focus, so tree would apply to 2nd pane. Combining that with an option not to expand a tree on navigation to another pane, one is quite able to keep the tree tidy. Also, something rather similar can be achieved when running 2 SP instances of XYplorer side-by-side. In fact, what you're describing sounds exactly like that, except within a single XYplorer instance wrapper. It's more flexible too, because one has a choice of single or dual tree and whether to have 2, 3 or 4 panes. Not trying to stand in the way of this one, but, if Don sees/will see benefit, then I hope roadmap will be done prior to implementing thisj_c_hallgren wrote:Back before I had any FM other than WE, I would often have 2 or more WE sessions open...but having to toggle between them wasn't ideal...I wished I could see both at same time...I had even used the old FM from W3.1(?) that allowed dual panes...so now that we have a DP FM, I can easily view both lists at same time but having to share a tree makes it a bit inconvenient at times...so having an option to have unique tree per pane would solve that...plus make us more competitive with some other FM's that get more attention.

Re: Dual Pane Wishes
I don't remember having talked about plans for Dual Tree, and there are no such plans where I live. But who knows, I even added Dual Pane...
Currently, however, propelled by procrastination power (sustainable and climate-friendly energy form!), I'm working on adding those 260+ shell columns to the list view! I mean, when you can search for them, you should also be able to see them!
