alternative breadcumb function

Hi,

Is it possible to please implement breadcrumbs on the tab name? So a tab name might be eg
C:\data\games and you can click on each "part" as a breadcrumb. In this case data and c: would be selectable.

Alternatively, double clicking could produce the ctrl+backspace breadcrumb list. This would be nicer for mouse users than the current implementation IMO.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

Having said that, it seems that you didn't use the forum search feature before creating this thread...looking for "breadcrumb" finds this has been discussed many times before, and some quite recently...such as http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4274 which was just a few days ago.

From another thread, I see that you are evaluating XY and I hope you'll like it enough to buy it...but it would help us keep the forum cleaner if you'd please try and locate an existing thread and post to that when possible...and we may use some terms that may be unfamiliar to you so do a search for "glossary" and you should find some clues to help.

I was refering more to the way xplorer2 does breadcrumbs on each tab, not in the address bar. I found that rather handy when I was evaluating that software.

First of all, may I ask if you have flexible width enabled for your tabs? It would only be logical to have breadcrumb (BC) in a tab if the whole location is visible. Also, what do you think are the advantages of having BC in tabs instead of AB? I think it would only be worth Don's time to implement them in one place: either AB or tabs. As it stands, tabs can be hidden, but AB cannot, so having BC in AB will apply to all instead of just the "tab people" Further, as Don will soon move to Win 7, he will see that BC in Explorer is in its AB and will likely become the "measuring stick" for XYplorer.

I have never used that product that you mentioned, though I'm sure tab-wise BC has its benefits. It's just that it normally takes quite a bit of space horizontally, so I'm sceptical it will better than having it in AB.

The exception to this is when the tab is iconified.
Don, might it make sense to add a breadcrumb submenu to the context menu in this case?

You still have it in the toolbar UP button and as KS (default: Ctrl+Backspace). Should be enough.

The only reason I suggest adding it is because if you get in the habit of using the icon's menu it's a bit jarring for it to not be there when the tab is iconified and you're unlikely to know its CKS or on the Up button (even if you use it).

*What's funny about this is I pushed to remove the breadcrumbs on iconified tabs in the first place.

I was curious and decided to look into this functionality. As it happens, found a hiccup that's related to the "My Music" and "My Pictures" shenanigans that were discussed in the "Undo/Redo" thread yesterday. If a a special folder within "My Documents" special folder become part of another special/non-special folder in "My Documents" and then gets put back into "My Documents" it is still retained in the breadcrumb menu (see screenshot below)

Side question: if folder A become child of folder B, should folder B be on folder A's breadcrumb menu immediately or only once it has been visited? Former is desirable, but latter is the current state of affairs.

What you see is a feature. The breadcrumb is made of the recently used locations.

Very well, ala MiniTree then. Fingers crossed that's not how it's going to be if AB will get the breadcrumb treatment, because if one needs to visit a location to be able to quickly jump to it via breadcrumb then it's counter-productive

I think that's what you had originally done, but I don't really like the idea of this as it makes the zones too small.

Besides eventually CEA should make it possible for us to get it exactly as we like.

Ok...I use the lite vers of x2 as alternative on rare occasions and am familar with that variant of BC...and for me, that style would work much better than AB as my current AB is only about 1 inch long due to nbr of icons on toolbar so it's almost too small to be useful...

I believe in the thread I linked to that there were links to other prior threads where this tab BC was discussed (or they can be found via search) as it's been mentioned many time before...my request was mainly based on the fact that I saw yet another thread being started for an existing topic...but now this thread has plenty of "life" and that's fine.
