"Mark All Posts Read" gone?

Post by zer0 »

Before whatever happened yesterday and a period of outage this morning, there was an option on the main forum page to mark all posts as read. It's quite useful. It seems this option has disappeared or at least I can't find it. Help please? :)

P.S. I know there is an option to do that on each forum section's page, but I'm after an option that marks all sections at once.

Forum software was updated after the little hickup yesterday. So this one got lost. Hm. Let's collect any other unwanted changes, and when I find the time I see what I can do.

Anybody happens to have a screenshot of the forum main page before the upgrade this morning?? Maybe there's one left in the browser cache...?

I did some digging and there's a link that potentially could achieve the same functionality as the "Mark All Posts Read" had. It's

Code: Select all

http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/index.php?mark=forums?sid=YOUR_SESSION_ID
. To get your session ID, right-click on the Logout link and select Properties, it'd be that long string at the end of the Address. Normally, there'd be a notice saying that "All posts have been marked as read" or something to that extent. It'd be nice if Don or someone else could confirm that it works. Cheers in advance :)

Somewhat related to this:

There was a thread in "Wishes" (don't recall the title) that had seems to have been deleted partially and thus you couldn't open it to read it and clear the unread marker but it was still causing the 'new post/unread' icon to show on "Wishes" when viewed by 'Board Index"...I just found that by going into "Wishes' and using the "Mark all posts read" cleared that dangling unread marker...so if others are having this minor issue, there is a way to reset it.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Tried my own possible solution and it's no solution at all, because it does not work. Therefore, I'd like to ask if it's possible to include it simply for the sake of saving the hassle of going into each separate forum and having to click on "Mark All Topics Read". Most of the time, I read responses without being logged in, so when I log in I'd just like to mark all new replies as read and write my responses. If phpBB can provide a solution or if there's a bit of php hardcoding that needs to be done to make it work, I'd greatly appreciate the effort :)

It turns out that this feature doesn't appear in some custom styles. In 'prosilver' (phpBB native style) it works, but in 'subsilver2' it does not. Mystery solved! 8)
