Auto-refresh on file system changes...or not?

I have "Auto-refresh on file system changes" enabled in Configuration->Advanced. However, I encountered a situation where this does not happen. It's illustrated in the screenshot below. Ideally, both the tree and the list should show the same under ConvertXtoDVD folder but, alas, they do not.

Yes, because XY also must be notified about the system change, which sometimes does not happen.

Your screenshot however is something I have rarely seen before. Surely tree and list should be in sync normally. How exactly did you arrive at that situation, and can you reproduce it?

I can reproduce a situation where a folder appears in the list, but not in the tree, that's easy. To reproduce:
1. Open ConvertXtoDVD and add some files.
2. Press "Convert" to start the encoding process
3. Navigate to the program's working folder and voilà!

I could also reproduce the situation where I deleted a folder from a list and it remained in the tree. Here's how:
1. Navigated to that ConvertXtoDVD folder that was shown in my screenshot.
2. Created a folder called "Test" in ConvertXtoDVD and it appeared in the tree and the list.
3. Without going into it, I clicked on the newly-created folder and deleted it.
4. It disappeared from the list but remained in the tree! (see below)

Perhaps both of those issues are somehow related to this bug http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3911 but I'm not certain, you'll know better!

I can reproduce a situation where I delete a folder from the list but it remains in the tree in any folder as long as there is already at least one other folder in that folder. If there is no other folder then everything is kosher.

I could also reproduce a situation where a folder is created by an external application (this time Photoshop CS4, instead of ConvertXtoDVD) and it appeared in the list, but not the tree. This I could do in any folder I wished to.

Maybe not this exact behavior, but I'm pretty sure many have reported how XY gets "out of sync" on Tree, for example when a folder is created/removed from an app such as WinRAR or an FTP client, etc

Actually, this even had me to suggest this (back in 2007) : Keep the Tree in Synch, which I'm sure has been mentioned elsewhere as well...

I think these were cases where the parent folder was still collapsed in the tree. Then folders were created without notification (which is a bug in the folder creating software). Then the tree node was expanded. The result is that the tree (correctly) shows more folders than the (incorrect) list.

I did not implement "Keep the Tree in Synch" because it would decrease general performance.

Well no, cases I had experienced were the other way around: List was always right, Tree wasn't. (hence my idea to use info from List to update/refresh Tree ) And the Tree was expanded, it is that folders added/removed were not shown when they should have been, or still shown when they didn't exists anymore. (I don't think I ever experienced the List being wrong, unless I have suspended AR - but then of course it's not wrong, since I asked for it.)

I'll admit I don't think I experienced such things in a while, but that's probably not as much because it went away, as it is because I changed the way I work now (with MiniTree). However, I know people who uses XY and somewhat often are faced with a Tree still showing deleted folders, or not showing ones that do exists - and always, the List is correct (since we just got there/it has fresh data).

A bit of further clarification: I can definitely reproduce it in any folder in the "Documents" folder (as per screenshots). Reproducing it elsewhere is proving to be more difficult. Perhaps something special about that folder?

Noticed another anomaly, maybe a bug. If you create two folders with the same name on Vista, you'll be greeted with a prompt asking if you want to merge them? If you agree then you'll have one folder instead of two, but the tree does not reflect such change. This I can reproduce everywhere I want to.

Just the folders are merged. Attempts to copy the same file to both folders are greeted with a message asking if I want to overwrite the file that I just copied, so clearly they are both pointing to the same location. Normally, if there is a folder in a tree that isn't in the list, clicking on a folder in the tree that isn't in the list results in its disappearance, but in my case I'm clicking on both folders and both remain in the tree. Refreshing the tree (F4) does not yield the desired effect either.

Nope, the clone has gone as I thought it would. Rebuild Tree also zaps the clone, but neither are a good solution for something that should be done on-the-fly.
