Tabs: Flexible width and X close button and Auto-optimize

Post by zer0 »

I caved in a little and started using tabs. Just two for now, baby steps  A couple of personal concerns with them though.

a) If you have Flexible Width enabled in your Config and show X on hover, is it really necessary to impose the 80 pixels limit for not showing the X close button? If the width of the tab will adjust according to the length of location anyway, I'm puzzled why it's not being shown. The changelog justifies the current way by saying that the limit is to prevent accidental closings. Perhaps, it would be better to have an adjustable delay before the button is shown?

b) One of my tabs is a location way down the directory tree, so selecting it makes the tree expand quite a lot. However, the other tab is a location at the top directory level so the tree expansion for it is very small. Currently, Auto-optimize tree works only if you manually click on nodes, but I am wondering if a tweak can be introduced to enable this functionality to be triggered when selecting a tab with a different folder. After all, from a user's point of view, whether you click on a node in the tree or a tab the outcome is the same.

1) I admit the situation is not optimal. But I had made some experiments with a delay and found it worse than now.

2) Maybe true, but lo prio.
