3 Questions: single click, larger icon, Verticle Info Panel.

Post by Mrunal »

1st- thanks a lot , the makers of Xyplorer, your program is far better than the rest of the crap i.e. Total commander, Opus and many more- i've tried them all, but no one felt so light, speedy and cool.

but i've some problems-

please see the pictures i've attached below.

my questions are
  • How to make it open files and folders with the single click?
  • How can i've a Verticle info bar instead of the horizontal?
  • How can I increase the icon size in view & Toolbars?
  • its not previewing the MS Office 2007 Files i.e. Docx, etc.
thanks in Advance.

Hi Mrunal,

welcome to the club!

* How to make it open files and folders with the single click?
Well, it's not supported.

* How can i've a Verticle info bar instead of the horizontal?
Not supported again. But you can enlarge the Info Panel by dragging the horizontal splitter between status bar and Info Panel. And you can use F11 (Full screen preview).

* How can I increase the icon size in view & Toolbars?
A new toolbar with flexible icon size is planned for one of the next versions.
Tile view icon size: I confess I currently have a problem showing those icons. ( :| )

* its not previewing the MS Office 2007 Files i.e. Docx, etc.
Hm. Should work. Anybody?

I think due to XYplorer using part of IE for preview it doesn't quite work on my system. Trying to preview .DOC files shows a message saying "Your current security settings do now allow this file to be downloaded" and trying to preview .DOCX gives a prompt that asks if I want to save, open or cancel (as if I clicked on that file in a webpage). Not quite how I expected preview to be :(

there are some tricks that work for me.

1. How to make it open files and folders with the single click?
ans: i found a program that turns the middle click into double click, which you can automatically start with xyplorer by making a batch file.
link - http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/MBtn2DblClick.aspx

2. How can i've a Verticle info bar instead of the horizontal?
ans: not possible, but a trick is to use customize file association feature, so that you can fully view the files.

3.How can I increase the icon size in view & Toolbars?
ans: the icon size to make it more like the tile view in explorer is change the thumbnail view to a smaller size. it works for me. and just wait for the toolbars customization.

4.its not previewing the MS Office 2007 Files i.e. Docx, etc.
ans: set universal viewer in customize file association to open docx, you can use a lister plugin to open the files, or use the portable version of open office set the customize file association and you can view docx.

i recommend autohotkey or hotkeyp (what i use), since they have many other features beside the dbl-click.
i finally got rid of the annoying windows beep when using alt+? shortcuts. :D

Not supported again. But you can enlarge the Info Panel by dragging the horizontal splitter between status bar and Info Panel. And you can use F11 (Full screen preview).
and then use the toolbar buttons "last IP size" (or right-click the statusbar) and "max IP size" so that you don't have to drag the splitter every time.

if i remember correctly, the max icon size here is the same used in your dsktop.
you can increase it in "control panel > display properties". on the tab where you see the system colors (i don't know how to translate to english :P ), click "advanced" and select "icons" in the dropdown list.
you can change the size here, but be aware that it will also affect icons outside xyplorer.

1. it works here.
2. to fix this issue, in xp:
go to "control panel > folder settings > file types" or smth like that (again, i can't translate to english).
it's the place where you can configure each extension's icon and associations.
select doc (or docx, xls, etc.) and click on advanced.
at the bottom of the advanced window there will be 3 checkboxes.
uncheck the first and check the last.
if they were already like that from the begining, first you have to change their states, click OK, OK again, and then redo the steps.

thanks everyone,
i really appriciate that you took time to reply to my question.

I'm hopefull that the new version will address these issue,
until them i'll work happy with the current Xyplorer. because it rocks.
and it rocks harder than Totalcommander and opus, and freecommander and everything else.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums from me as well!
New version? Not likely since new versions appear just about daily around here...but in a future vers? Yes, that's more like it!

Realizing however that some things may not be implemented for some time, if at all, since it's somewhat based on user demand but also on what Don believes is worthwhile.

So join us here on a daily basis and watch the progress, ok?
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Well, it's not supported.
Just as a FYI, this ability is available in Windows Explorer. It should be part of XY too.
