Newest BETA Warning

Post by RalphM »

Well, I just hope this was red enough to get taken seriously! Because the next upload will NOT be compatible with the data structure of the last upload. Yeah, it's a BETA club... Any pre-v7.90.0300 installation will do...

What will happen if you ignore my warning? You will lose your tabs and history, that's all.
Could you explain, what the part about the pre-7.90.0300 release is supposed to tell us?

Do I have to go back to a pre-0300 version before upgrading to the newest one or the exact opposite, or do I loose my tabs and history anyway?!?

I admit, you got me a bit confused.
Ralph :)

That's how I read that warning.
Or rather you have a choice if you have a pre-0300 backup.
1) You can lose any changes you've made since that backup, but retain the tabs and history from the backup when moving forward.
2) You can keep those changes, but you lose your tabs and history when upgrading from any 0300+ version.

Or you can spend some time and try to convert your changes into a pre-0300 version and retain everything, maybe.

In any event I'm glad I was too chicken to proceed when presented with the big red text, and have been sitting at 7.90.0265. Not much help in testing that the transition works, but I need to get work done too. :P

Sorry for the confusion! Actually I was confused myself due to a DP-induced temporary cerebral melt-down (my hemispheres swapped!). Actually, the warning is obsolete (I will remove it).

But it still a good idea to keep a backup of the pre-7.90.0300 app data folder (not of the app itself).

I guess the only question that remains unanswered is: when will you be kind enough to unleash the beauty & the beast upon us?

Beautiful, as usual :)

Will be there an option to have vertical panes, like TC or x2 by default ?
Perhaps I'm mistaken because the is noting in the inferior pane.

Yes, sure. I've spent lots of hours with the pane mechanics: horizontal, vertical, sizing, swapping, switching, etc. Now I'm busy with the contents... might take some more days...

Wow, that's a lot of things on the desktop! Your German efficiency leads me to believe that you either have a large monitor, never minimise XYplorer or use some voodoo magic to make sense of it all :P

 No, the desktop is my garbage can... I never look at it, just throw things in it.

I exchanged the image to reduce the shock effect AND to prove that vertical DP will work as well. :)

Well, I keep backups of all the more recent versions, I only got confused about the pre-0300 thing. So I keep doing backups and you tell us, in case we have to downgrade before an upgrade, huh...

Good God! I nearly fell of my chair  An idea: a competition to identify different types of files in that mess. Winner gets a lifetime license :P
