21.350 ms startup

Post by kartal »

Hi

Is the bug related to slow opening-VPN connection ever fixed? I have reported this before and it seems like anytime I have a disconnected vpn on my machine Xyplorer tuns into slug during startup. I am not even starting Xyplorer with vpn tab open. There is one vpn tab in my setup but that is one of the inactive tabs. This happens when there is a vpn connection setup in the system but it is in disconnected state. When I connect to my vpn then startup speed goes down to 4.000 ms which is an acceptable speed. I have tried couple network settings in the ini but that did not improve anything. The thing is that I cannot just stay connected to vpn day and night to ensure speed in Xyplorer.

thanks

I assume you mean seconds not milliseconds - I'm not sure I could tell the difference between 21ms and 4 ms

(Oops - yes, I read this in a US-centric fashion... My apologies)

21350ms=21 sec. I have put the formatting XYplorer gave in the startup window section.

I believe the misunderstanding here is the European vs US decimal formatting: in most European countries, I believe that the comma is used to show decimal numbers, and the period is used as a 1000s separator (i.e. 21.350 ms is just over 21 seconds), whereas in the US it's the reverse (the same number would be written 21,350 ms)...

Can seem like quite a disparity if one doesn't know the different standards! (the beauty of standards is that there are so many different ones to choose from! :) )

Hope this helps!

Argh! I thought I had done something good about this in v7.90.0153 (2 days ago!).

Have you used this INI tweak?

Code: Select all

[General]
GenericIconsForNetworkLocations=1
It should help.

Welcome! :D

I'm just wondering why I added this tweak to the already existing ways to opt for generic icons on Configuration / Advanced. The option "Use generic icons for super-fast browsing" (with or without "But only in network locations") should cover this alright, or? Looking at the code I find no reason to simply drop the tweak and use the "Use generic icons for super-fast browsing" in its place!

Will do...

Just out of curiosity, how can I measure XY's start-up time? Obviously, I'm looking for a method other than one with me holding a stopwatch

Tools | Configuration | Startup & Exit. It's at the bottom of the screen.

I have no idea either. One of my 32 bit xp machines is very snappy with the same config. But my 64bit desktop(one with vpn connection) is so sluggish during startup. It is so bad that I have no problem with calling it terrible.

Can you try a v8.00 (get it from the freezer) pointing to the same app data path (=configuration)?

Again as I posted in the crash related topic, getting rid of Vpn tabs for tests brought the speed back. I can now open Xyplorer in a decent time.
