Duplicate extension in Recycle Bin for unassociated file types

Post by Nuno »

My posts here seem to be plagued with bug reports that no one can reproduce  , so let's see if I get it right this time... :kidding:

In latest XYplorer 18.50.0200 (Win7 x64) I noticed that unassociated file types get a double extension displayed when placed in the Recycle Bin.
Check the two sample files on the screenshot below:
Clipboard-20171102.png

The .BAK file has, in reality, only one ".BAK", but is shown as having two...

I'm glad that you got an independent confirmation this time, but alas not from me. Cannot reproduce (Win8.1) nor explain.

I am sorry to ressurect this post after 7 (!) years, but I think I might have found the issue by accident: I noticed a few moments ago that I only see duplicate extensions if Windows is configured to hide extensions for known file types.
If the extensions are shown in Windows/Explorer (if the following value is set to 0) XYplorer shows file extensions correctly in Recycle Bin for all files, including for unknown file types.

Code: Select all

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\HideFileExt
Should XYplorer behave differently depending on this Windows Explorer setting?

(I am guessing that only advanced users use XYplorer, so everyone disables this setting immediately after installing Windows... :ugeek: That may be why this issue is not confirmed by more people...)

Yes, confirmed.  While I believe that people who hide extensions should be punished whenever possible, I added a fix out of unwarranted compassion. It's too embarrassing to add it to the change log though.
