Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
OK, it looks like it almost certainly is because of the Split Tunneling function in my VPN. In the Split Tunnel rules I allow XY and a couple of other apps to bypass the VPN, everything else is set to use the VPN. I'm guessing there's some kind of system service (maybe something that pings the network) that needs to run once after booting without being blocked by the VPN in order for all my file locations and network devices to appear in XY.
I tried turning off the Split Tunnel so that the VPN applies to everything and XY doesn't then hang after rebooting. Which is strange because if it doesn't hang when the VPN is on for everything I don't know why it would hang when I'm just letting a few apps through.
Anyway, I think you can ignore my problem but maybe my comments might be useful for others in future if they're having a similar issue.
If there's a command you'd like me to run in XY for diagnosis to see what's holding it up when it hangs just let me know. And possibly OP might want to check to see if their VPN could be related to their freezing issues.

Next time it happens, post the load times. Run this script through the address bar after the app has finally loaded:

Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
I turned Split Tunnelling back on to make the hanging come back but XY loads OK for a split second before hanging so the load times don't look like there's a problem in the log:

After that initial split second XY then hangs for about 2 or 3 minutes after which it eventually comes back to life but my network locations are inaccessible (red X next to the network location in XY). If I then turn off VPN the network locations are accessible again. So I guess I just need to find out what program to add to my VPN Tunnel list to make sure the network is accessible. But I guess it's not really an XY issue so don't worry, I'll see if I can work out what to add to my VPN Tunnel list.

Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
And just to confirm, Windows Explorer (spit) also can't access my network locations on first launch when VPN Split Tunnelling is on, so it's not an XY issue. As a last question, any idea what program I would add to my VPN Split Tunnel exclusion list to allow network access?
Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
Narrowed it down further - in the VPN settings (Private Internet Access) there's an option under Network to select DNS. If I select the default 'PIA DNS' then the hanging in XY (and Windows Explorer) occurs. If I select 'Use existing DNS' then the hanging goes away

I don't have problem loading XYplorer but trough out the day, XYplorer will occasionally freeze 15 to 30 seconds.
If I remember correctly freezes start happening in the last 2 months.
Freezes usually happen when I switch back to XYplorer from other application.

Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
Well, thanks for the report. Are there any patterns?
- Which kind of folder is listed when this happens, is it a network location, is it huge (say > 100,000 items)?
- Does the list show heavy custom columns?
- Could it be caused by anti-virus?

Local folder which burried under 8 level of subfolder:
D:\level1\level2\level3\level4\level5\level6\level7\level8\level9
Folder level9 contains 6 subfolder (each contains 2 to 7 files) and 15 files on its root
level1 folder and its subfolders is synched by Seafile (similar to Google Drive) to local server.
But XYplorer usually has no problem when synching is running

the list shows the following columns: Name, Tags (mostly empty), Ext, Size, Modified, Created
> Could it be caused by anti-virus?
We have been using Kaspersky Endpoint Security for years without any problem [to XYplorer] but I will ask IT

Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
Seems harmless. But synching can be a source of trouble of course, as can be AV. But 15 to 30 seconds??? That's just crazy.
How do you switch back? Click on taskbar?Freezes usually happen when I switch back to XYplorer from other application.

Re: Xyplorer 26 frozen and not responding
I was having this hanging issue as well with my work machine using v26, this after several years without this slowness with previous versions... unlike the other screenshots posted on here, mine shows nearly 80 second hang at startup.
After reviewing the load report results it was pretty obvious what the hangup was, the "check existence of subfolders in tree", once I turned that off in settings the program is flying again.

Right-clicking a file to bring up the context menu has also been slightly sped up, but it's still a quite bit slower than Windows Explorer - taking 3-6 seconds at times to pull up the context menu for any file regardless if it's local or on a network drive.

I had a similar issue and it was solved for me when I set `CheckForUpdates=0`.
