Error:6 (0x00000006)

Post by zakoul »

XYplorer 23.50 after clearing the thumbnail cache and when creating new thumbnails of video files, error:6 sometimes appears. So far, it has rolled back to version 23.40.
K-Lite_Codec_Pack_1715_Basic is installed and Icaros is used to create sketches. If you disable it, the error disappears. But at 23.40 everything works fine with Icaros.

I also have the K-Lite 17.1.5 Standard installed
and no problem to recreate video thumbnails after clearing the cache.
What type of videos you have ?

Most often, the error appears with wmv formats, but it also happens on mp4.
Icaros is turned on and you ?

You see this error with 23.50 but not with 23.40?? I did not change anything concerning videos.

I haven't cleaned the thumbnail cache in XYplorer for a long time, but in version 23.50 I cleaned it and this error started appearing. I downgraded the version to 23.40 and the error disappeared. I have done this several times, at 23.50 - there is an error, at 23.40 - there is no error.

Did you clean the thumbnail cache in 23.40?

I don't understand anything. Today I upgraded from 23.40 to 23.40.0013 and then to 23.50. There is no error. Yesterday I tried between versions 23.40 and 23.50 - there was an error. Question: when clearing the cache, should the contents of the file be cleared XYThumbs.txt ?

Well, it's not necessary to clear the whole cache. The point is to create a fresh thumbnail. You can do that by selecting the file (the one with error 6) and then do View | Caches | Refresh Selected Thumbnails.

In the meantime I saw what could probably cause your issue and tried a fix. Next beta...

After a while, at 23.50, the error still appeared again. Updating the cache of the selected files does not always help.
I also noticed that when creating thumbnails, double folders are displayed in another file panel.

This happens only when creating thumbnails in another file panel.

23.50.0007 - the error has disappeared. Thanks.
But there is a problem with double folders in another file panel. At the same time, this happens when creating thumbnails for image files, but less often.

1) Has the error also disappeared if you tick Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | For videos as well?

2) Totally weird. Have not seen something like this for years! Does it always happen? With any folder?

1) Oops... I didn't notice this item in the settings. If you enable "For videos as well", then error 6 appears again. If this check mark is disabled, then there is no error.
2) In XYplorer, I have two file panels displayed. In the left, for example, some folder is open, and in the right I open folders with video files or image files. So when creating thumbnails, there is a double display in the left file panel. This happens randomly, but it is at the moment of creating thumbnails (with a clean cache). And the longer the process of creating thumbnails takes, the more chances there are for such a glitch.
I.e. if a few thumbnails of images are created at a time, then there is little chance. And if several thumbnails of video files are created every time, then there are more chances.
Also, the chance increases if you enable the "Create all thumbnails at once" checkbox.

1) Could you show me a screenshot of the error message? Use v23.50.0008 or later, the message might be more informative.

2) Can anybody else here reproduce this?
