I think it does, because I can preview it with XY which i know uses IE. I have never had problems previewing PDFs with Foxit, plus the file is not locked while renaming.admin wrote:Does it integrate into IE? Or: what happens when you click on a PDF link in the internet? I guess Foxit can handle this and opens?

Is it better now? (I did not mention the change in the history, but it is in ver 0029).j_c_hallgren wrote:This is something that has bugged me for a while, and I don't recall seeing it here before...and it's fully understandable as to why it happens but there might be a better way to handle it than I've found...

I think it is worthy of a brief mention in history, like a one-liner...you could just update v30 entry to add it, as I'm starting to add it to blog now, and emails won't go out till late tonight.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!

Did it. Also updated the section about scripting a bit...j_c_hallgren wrote:admin wrote:Is it better now? (I did not mention the change in the history, but it is in ver 0029).YES! I just tried it on first time after startup and after moving to next item...both worked just fine!

I see that! Now I've got to tweak MY scripting text to match, due to all the spacing/formatting needed...anyway, you haveadmin wrote:Did it. Also updated the section about scripting a bit...

BTW, what suggestions might others have as to the best key to use to wrest focus back from Adobe when previewing a PDF?
I've tended to use mouse and toolbar to adjust Info Panel settings, such as size, but when I have just selected a PDF and it's in preview, it doesn't pay any attention to my F12 or similar keys, and so am now curious as to how other folks handle this...and does Foxit Reader act the same way? I've tried F-R a long time ago but ended up back with A-R after some system changes.

Good question! If Foxit does not steal the focus, it's bye bye Adobe for me!j_c_hallgren wrote:BTW, what suggestions might others have as to the best key to use to wrest focus back from Adobe when previewing a PDF?![]()

Foxit doesnt seem to have problems those mentioned by JC. I can always use XY's functions even while previewing pdfs.
BTW, I recommend another free PDF viewer which is growing in popularity and has some nice editing tools:
PDF-XChange Viewer.
Download link: http://www.docu-track.com/downloads/users/
PS: interestingly they call themselves Tracker software products.

I've just DL'd and installed Foxit to see how it compares...I've set it as default reader for now to be able to test it correctly..only issue I've seen in first few minutes is that F-R toolbar runs off the right end of IP window and one must use Wide IP setting to view all of its toolbar icons...
Found one bugging item!
It displays a very wide Language drop-down when I've clicked on View menu and move mouse over that option, thus hiding the next item (Documents) on menubar...
F-R shows as using about 1/2 memory of A-R, or thereabouts..
And..as serendipity wrote, it doesn't appear to grab focus on preview use, so one can rename without the extra clicking to yank it from Adobe...
Not sure what features A-R has that F-R doesn't...I'll have to try it on some other bigger docs that have more "stuff" in them...

Good to know that F-R worked for you. and regarding those toolbar icons, i have the same problem. But most likely i just preview the file and if i have to edit it, i open it in full view. Also, be warned that F-R has some issues displaying some pdfs, i have encountered very few myself so its not biggie for me.j_c_hallgren wrote:I've just DL'd and installed Foxit to see how it compares...I've set it as default reader for now to be able to test it correctly..only issue I've seen in first few minutes is that F-R toolbar runs off the right end of IP window and one must use Wide IP setting to view all of its toolbar icons...

Thats why i actually suggested an other pdf viewer which i've heard is better than F-R. also its multi-tabbed, portable and very actively developed (no where close to XY ofcourse). (but sounds familiar heh.

I'm hoping I'm wrong here (and this isn't to belittle this software), but does it really matter in the case of previewing in XY if the software is portable or not? Is there a way to use a portable application for previewing in XY without modifying the local machine's install of IE?serendipity wrote:Thats why i actually suggested an other pdf viewer which i've heard is better than F-R. also its multi-tabbed, portable and very actively developed (no where close to XY ofcourse). Oops, i wanted to use the word non-install and not portable. Many times i like to zip and use a program instead of going through the hassle of installing it.TheQwerty wrote:I'm hoping I'm wrong here (and this isn't to belittle this software), but does it really matter in the case of previewing in XY if the software is portable or not? And regarding the portable thing, you are right. One has to define .pdf to open with the portable app in folder options to preview it in XY, because it uses IE.

Darn, I was hoping there was something everyone else knew that I didn't.serendipity wrote:And regarding the portable thing, you are right. One has to define .pdf to open with the portable app in folder options to preview it in XY, because it uses IE.
I've actually been using SumatraPDF (the version from portableapps.com) via an XY file association, but still dream of an alternative portable plugin that would make the normal XY preview less painful.
