PDF Thumbnail missing (and a possible solution)

Post by pat55 »

! Find Files: Would not work on Paper Folders since 20161024. Fixed.
That works BUT ---
Display of 675x675 Thumbnails suddenly is a problem in paper folders only.

Looks like a corrupt thumbs cache. Try to refresh the thumbnails, please.

So how and where does one do this?
I see do you mean "Clear Cache" - would that not wipe out everything stored there?
It likely would take hours to rebuild per my WAG. (I'm not using Create all thumbnail at once)

Reloading the paper file does nothing.

I have hundreds of paper folders and this is the only one with this problem (dumb luck to be the first one to test) - so it may be tempting to do nothing for now.

No, I mean this menu command:

View | Caches | Refresh Thumbnails

It refreshes the thumbs in the current list.

I'm glad I asked the "stupid question" --- this worked perfectly and took less than 30 seconds.
thanks Admin

The PDF thumbnails and icons remains a work in progress - I assume since they DO NOT respond to the same treatment or fix?

Any problems with PDF thumbnails? What software are you using to view PDFs?

SumatraPDF

A NEW PROBLEM:
Yesterday I DLed a couple of PDFs from GB. No problem using the M$ File Explorer selecting or moving the files to a different folder or viewing same with SomatraPDF.

In XY it consistently had a very hard time just selecting one or both files. XY had the "Not Responding" message for a minute or more to resolve.
Restarting XY or even a reboot did nothing - yesterday or today. I should be able to email the two files to you if needed.

XY runs just fine with everything else. Any idea what could cause this?

PS has this web page been tampered with? I used to be able to drag and drop into attachments - now I have to use menus.
The delete an entire post or edit a post is either missing or different now. :-)

1) What is your problem with PDF thumbnails?

2) "Not Responding" message: If those PDFs are extremely large and the Preview Tab or Preview Pane is open then it might take a couple of seconds when viewing them for the first time. Another reason could be the presence of complex custom columns.

3) Has this web page been tampered with? No.

Half of my pdf thumbnails are generic. as in the bottom half of attachment. (The top half is what we want - both are pdf files and thumbnails)

As for sizes one is 70K and the other 15K - nothing special for my files and premium hardware.

Web page -
Say I write something stupid (again) and simply want to delete the entire post - how do I do this?

In the past when I uploaded a message - I would be presented with an option to view the posted message.
Now it seems to either do this automatically - or something else.

There also used to be an option to edit a posted message - do not see that either.

Thanks, got your PDFs. Both work fine here (thumbnails and preview). So either your cache has not been refreshed completely, or your PDF viewer has some problem with them. In that case use mine: PDF-Xchange.

FAQ | XY News RSS | XY Twitter | XY Facebook | PayPal.Me

with all due respect Don, I switched to Sumatra at either your or highend I believe.
I now switched back and as you can see nothing has changed per the attached.
I also have the Xchange paid deluxe ver. there.

The only place with a problem is in XY.
How do I fix this in which xy cache and will that vipe out JPG cache?
