v17.20 - one hit and one miss

Installed v17.20 just after breakfast. Custom Copy Retry Button very nice. By the time lunch came around had already used it twice!

But don't get Single File Search. Most users have trouble remembering a full file name. How are we supposed to recollect an entire path? Or is something going on here I missed?

I personally have lots of docs (TXT files) where I have noted full paths to certain files. I even read those docs and I have to quickly look at such a file. SFS is the quickest way to do this.

Have read carefully but what is now not understood is where does this come from:

Hm, it might be my bad English. I mean you get a message, a mail, a website, some bit of information.

I agree for this scenario SFS is great but I doubt I'll ever remember a full path to a file I want to have a quick peek at without following the logical path down the folder structure I created to store my files.
The sudden note you mention popping up can only come from somebody who knows your system very well - who is usually you and you alone.
As with many other features I don't use in XY for either not being aware they are even there or having found they don't fit or help my file management that much, nobody forces me to use them now and who knows, maybe I find a use case for it in the future.

I added the feature because this happended:

I needed to have a quick look at this system file: C:\Windows\System32\quartz.dll
I pasted the path (which I copied from somewhere where it was written) into the Address Bar and pressed ENTER.
It took like 5 seconds until I got the file listed (I had a custom column in the current list which slowed it down). WHAT???

So I thought this has to work faster! I don't need those other 3.878 files. I can save time here. That's why I made Single File Search. I think it's mainly for system files, stuff the everybody has, stuff you read about in the web. OTOH you can bookmark your own file for a quick SFS peek...

As I said, I fully understand where you're coming from and see the advantage of SFS in your scenario but if I'm just after a bookmark for a file I can already mark it as a Favorite File and open it from there.
There's actually a possible use case for me, if you integrated SFS with Favorite Files so I could right click an entry in the list and do a SFS on it instead of opening it?

I already thought about this, but: Right click on menu is not possible. But even if it was, I don't want to mix these two features.

FYI: Before SFS when I found myself in similar scenarios I'd use a Visual Filter by doing this:

1. Paste into Address Bar
2. Ctrl+Left Arrow
3. Type '|'.
4. Press Enter.

Thus making your example:

Very rarely would I end up with more than 1 result and in those cases it was actually pretty helpful to see the unintended items.

We'll see if I can change the habit to use SFS instead but I don't see much incentive to do so at present.

I'd like to chime in here. I think this feature is great, and I have regular use for it. Similarly, I liked the name or full path paste into a list for quick jumping. It's not a question of remembering these paths - I rarely type paths with the keyboard; they are usually coming from elsewhere, a file or application. So that's a key part of the use case for this feature, I think.

I don't really use the tree anyhow but with it minimizing plus radically auto-optimizing the changes aren't so bad.
