Upgrade from 16.40 to 16.50.0200

Post by zer0 »

As a bit of feedback, I have just upgraded from and to version as per subject line and, on start via the installer, noticed that "Documents" folder was removed from my locked tree. I had it back within a few clicks, but it was quite startling at the beginning and somewhat unpleasant, since upgrades are not meant to mess around with the existing configuration. Almost makes me wonder what else was changed that I may have noticed yet... :?

I had the same problem.

Would you tell me how you got your Documents folder back? Unable to figure it out, I went back to 16.40. Thanks!

Checking "Settings > General > Tree and List > Show Documents folder" box worked for me.

Appreciate that, and thanks.

So the box, for some reason, was unchecked? I'll try upgrading again later in the week.

It was. If I am not mistaken, the corresponding INI value is ShowSpecFolderDocuments. Therefore, the question is: was that value ignored on purpose or by accident and, if the former, why?

I have the same problem with my old Windows XP (SP3) PC, only worse: not only are some configuration settings/preferences not preserved, but some related features do not work. For example, the “virtual” folder My Documents disappears from Tree view after updating, but after re-selecting it in the configuration settings to make it reappear, it doesn’t work properly: the folder is empty, with a message saying that the path isn’t valid. I have the same problem with the User and Desktop “virtual” folders. The “regular” folders (those branching off the tree of the root drive) seem to work fine.

If I unZIP a fresh portable version of 16.50.02 and bypass the XYplorer.ini file from 16.40, the “virtual” folders seems to work fine. (I did not fully customize the portable version or check for other problems; I simply did enough to check the various “virtual” folders.) It seems, then, that 16.50.xx is not fully compatible with the XYplorer.ini of 16.40.

I renamed the key. I do this once every 10 years, so you can relax now. And next time I will even think of adding some smart upgrade code.
