Rename a file
Rename a file
This should be pretty easy, and I'm sure it is...maybe.
For all of time since using Windows, if I right click on a file name, somewhere down the bottom of the list that pops up is "Rename".
But not in my list? I don't want to use double click as a way to rename, I want double click to open the file (image file), but when I right click I want to see "rename".
Possible?

Re: Rename a file
The shell part of your context menu offers the normal rename command. Show us a screenshot of your context menu, please.

Re: Rename a file
Maybe, on a 64bit system, you set "Show 64-bit Context Menu"? (See below
)
If yes: this only shows 64 bit entries - and Rename seems not to be shown here. Select 32bit in the 64bit menu, or deselect:
Configuration / Other / Shell Integration / 64-bit Windows / Show the 64-bit context menu

Re: Rename a file
Where I come from they rename by pressing F2. Try it, it's cool.

Where I come from, men don't rename. They delete and recreate from scratch xD

Re: Rename a file
64-bit context menu in Explorer has "Rename" for me, but not in XY. On the face of it, seems like a bug.

Re: Rename a file
Bug is a strong word. I'd say it's a missing option. Implementing it would need a callback from the menu to XY. Currently not possible.

Re: Rename a file
Peter, you are correct. This has fixed it and my Rename is back.PeterH wrote:Maybe, on a 64bit system, you set "Show 64-bit Context Menu"? (See below)

So is this a bug? I have no idea?
Edit: So having done that I now have another menu item missing "Erase" which is there if I click "Show 64 bit context menu" (in which case Rename then disappears). What the...?

See Don's answer above your post.So is this a bug? I have no idea?
XY = 32bit applicationWhat the...?
By default it only! shows 32bit shell context menu (and: it's own if you configure them)
Choosing the 64bit context menu entry changes that: No XY internal ones any more but only! 64bit shell context entries. It uses a helper program to do that. A workaround, not a bug...

Re: Rename a file
Well I completely agree with joprix. There is no reason the menu option "Rename" needs to be mutually exclusive of assignment to a hotkey. I've just started using XY and I almost couldn't believe a core function such as "Rename" had been abandoned to an F2 hotkey with no menu alternative. With all due respect the program should have both.

You didn't read all above? (I just did.)semicodin wrote:Well I completely agree with joprix. There is no reason the menu option "Rename" needs to be mutually exclusive of assignment to a hotkey. If *you* abandon the default 32bit menu of XY you abandon the Delete option. And still can delete by pressing F2.
Sure: this is not the optimum. But it's still better than times ago, where no 64bit menu was available at all. So please be glad
Re: Rename a file
Peter, I'm on XP (which is of course 32-bit). Did I miss something? What menu has the file operation "Rename"?PeterH wrote:You didn't read all above? (I just did.)
Re: Rename a file
Why, you must have "Rename" in the rightclick context menu!

We're talking about right click on a file, don't we?
So: my XP, in a Virtual Box, has: the 2nd to last position is "Umbenennen" - German for Rename.
(As my XY is English, the German word is delivered by the German XP
