HashOnClick makes XyPlorer crashing.

Post by ClintE »

I am a hardcore WinXP fanatic, but have now bowed down 50%, and downgraded to Win 7 on dual boot. This means that I use XyPlorer when I boot into Win 7, as it still after 5 years don't have a usable file manager. XYplorer is a super flexible and user friendly file manager, without (as far as I can see) the refresh problem that other filemanagers suffer from.
I have for many years used a small and fast checksum tool called HashOnClick (http://www.2brightsparks.com/onclick/hoc.html). I installed it on my new Win 7, and it crashes XYplorer. The mistake I did, was to download the new version of the application (v2.5.1). The old version (v2.2.1) will not crash XYplorer.
I write it here for info only, but if anyone is interested in investigating what goes wrong, here is a quick way of making the crash happen:
1] Create 3 empty .txt files (or use any existing files). 2] Rightclick and get MD5 checksum on file 1. 3] Click copy to clipboard. 4] Rightclick and get MD5 checksum on file 2. 5] Close window. 6] Open file 3 (.txt) with notepad. * Crash* :blackstorm:
If XYplorer survives, repeat the steps and the crash will surely happen second time.
I have not reported the bug on their forum, since I then have to register and I am pretty sure that they don't care, and... I can just use the old version

You're aware that XYPlorer has the ability to create hash values for files itself, without any external application?!
Don't know how fast it is though.

Yes, I am fully aware of that. But I find HashOnClick very fast and easy to use for comparing files in different folders.
