Win7(x64) Preview All Office Documents SOLVED!

Post by JesusInsideMe »

Hello, I like XYPlorer, but how you know, (a lot of related topics in this forum) you can't preview Doc,Docx,Xls,Xlsx,Ppt bye default (I don't know why yet! :?: ).
Almost I uninstall XYPlorer, until I found and I followed these indications placed in this same forum that you'r reading now, the easy solution is either here or at that webpage bottom
It worked fine for me (Win7, 64b), now I can see the mentioned office programs inside XYPlorer Preview Tab! :D
:) I hope this topic help to someone to be decided by XYPlorer. :D
God bless you, bye.

Hi and welcome to the XY forums!

The answer you pointed to in the forums is also easily available at the XY site itself which you may have missed...it's in the FAQ within Support:
http://www.xyplorer.com/faq-topic.php?id=3 as question #4 from this page http://www.xyplorer.com/faq.htm so it's not as obscure as you may have thought.
Still spending WAY TOO much time here! But it's such a pleasure helping XY be a treasure!
(XP on laptop with touchpad and thus NO mouse!) Using latest beta vers when possible.

Which Office version are you using, 2007?

Some user claimed today that also Office 2003 would need the fix. Can somebody confirm this?

Hello, it is 2007, now u need to know, I have notice this problems:

01) Xls and Xlsx have problems to preview again! :( and this message appear in XYplorer preview window "Office file is currently opened by another application". (in the preview window apparently the file is going to visualize, but suddenly the image is closed and a gray background is placed with the mentioned message on top at left).
02) Every time I open XYplorer, it loses its tabs size, and I need to be resizing it (windows tab are placed closely together, almost being united).

.. I have not found solution to these problems!
...Telling the truth, this stops me to decide buy XYplorer
God bless you, bye. :P

01) I have seen this with some XLS, others behave normally. Never found the pattern behind it.

02) :? What do you mean? I don't think I ever had issues with the tab size. Got a screenshot?

Well, I'm sorry I was mistaken when saying Tab size  , I think maybe I had to say either "pane size"? or "window size" , sorry for it, please, help me looking the image HERE to know what I'm talking about, any help on this (To avoid resize the pane each time XYplorer starts), or the problem with Xls, Xlsx file preview  , will be well received.
Thanks in advance for any support
God bless you, bye.

Regarding panes, not very sure, but I would check menu "Tools>Configuration>Dual pane>Resizing the window" and make it "both pane flexible". Also, double-click on the middle divider and save and restart to see if you get the same problem.

XLS/XLSX: I would run the tweak mentioned below again. I vaguely remember having this problem and after i ran that registry tweak it fixed it.

Thanks serendipity:
I tried your step unsuccessfully, then I set "Tools>Configuration>Dual pane>1st pane flexible, 2nd pane fixed size", and, I re-run the tweak and Excel preview works again (I hope no to have to do it every certain time!) :/
Thanks to spend your time in helping to someone. :o
God bless you, bye. :)

If I click on an .xls file with the Info Panel open, and then select the Preview tab ... the file is not previewed. Instead, a ‘File Download’ dialogue pops up with as options: Open, Save and Cancel. How can I make XYplorer preview these files?

Preview works for .docx and .pdf files (albeit VERY slowly).

Michael

Oops. just noticed I don’t have IE installed. Am installing it now and will report back if that fixes the problem.

OK, so I installed IE 11, and now previewing .xls files in the preview windows works.

However, I am still first show that ‘File Download’ dialogue with the options: Open, Save and Cancel every time I click on an .xls file. Is there any way to bypass this dialogue?

Yes, I tried that, but I have Office 2013, and the fixes there are for Office 2007 and Office 2010.

I get the following error:

‘This Microsoft Fix it does not apply to your operating system or application version.’

OK, so I fixed it for .xls using the info further down on that page:

-----------------------*
DOC: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.8
DOCX: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12
PDF: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document
XLSX: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12
XLS: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8
PPT: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.8
PPTX: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.12

EditFlags: 00 00 01 00
-----------------------*

.RTF files still take a very long time to open in the preview. Is there a registry key for .RTFs I could maybe tweak?

Actually: .rtf, .docx and .doc take almost 10 seconds to preview, which is very slow.
.xls and .pdfs are very fast.
