CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
Logic suggests that the standard Windows property "Pages" would return the number of pages a PDF file contains.... But alas that does not appear to be the case. Is there a CC "Template" code for it?

If you have the right PDF viewer installed, "Pages" property will show the correct value. (With PDF-XChange Viewer it is ok.)

Thanks for the reply LittleBig.LittleBiG wrote:If you have the right PDF viewer installed, "Pages" property will show the correct value. (With PDF-XChange Viewer it is ok.)
Does your setup look like this?

I tried with Format = Number, Text, and Mixed.
I don't have PDF-Xchange, but I am running Acrobat XI, which is like the PDF Mothership. I checked the Acrobat pref settings and couldn't find anything useful.
It's interesting to note that I tried the built-in "Pages" property on xplorer2, and it also did not how pages for PDFs. However, xplorer2 does show pages for Word docs, while XYplorer does not show page numbers for docs.
Can anyone else shed light on this?
EDIT: Actually, I just tried accessing the "Pages" property via right-click on the column header and choose "Select property" rather than setting it as a CC definition. When I did that, it started behaving like xplorer2 (shows pages for Word docs, but still not pdfs)

Yes, I use the Pages property by right click. I also have a computer with Acrobat and the Pages property doesn't work on that. That's why I recommended PDF-Xchange.kunkel321 wrote:I don't have PDF-Xchange, but I am running Acrobat XI, which is like the PDF Mothership. Re: CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
Well.... I posted to the Adobe Acrobat support forum and to the SuperUser forum and nobody had ideas of how to achieve this; except for LittleBig (from here), who suggested installing PDF-XChange Viewer. Sure enough, that worked!
Oddly though, PDF (as well as .DOCX) files only show their number of pages if the column is using the "Pages" property from "Right-Click >> Choose Property." If I set it up as a Custom Column

Then it does not work.
Unfortunately this limitation means that I cannot integrate the Pages property as part of a Mixed CC (it has to be a stand-alone column). Do you guys know if it's possible to evoke the Property via a "Template" and get it to work?

Re: CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
New Column -> right-click on column -> Select Property -> "PAGES"
is not showing the number of pages EVEN FOR THE WORD DOC .docx in XYplorer 14.00
while it is being shown correctly in Windows explorer
Then installed PDF-Xchange viewer and the "pages" column, created as above, its SHOWING THE No of pages CORRECTLY FOR PDF FILES BUT STILL NOT FOR WORD DOCs
Any thoughts regarding this

Cannot confirm. Pages work also in a Custom Column. Hmkunkel321 wrote:Well.... Cannot confirm. I see pages for DOC files in XY and WE, but not for DOCX in either.gks wrote:New Column -> right-click on column -> Select Property -> "PAGES"

Pages of "docx" works here in XY.
Re: CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
@admin
Yes, XY shows the number of pages for a .doc file and not for .docx file, But WE is showing the number of pages for both .doc and .docx (screenshot attached)
@LittleBiG
i'm trying it on XY version 14.00 without success (screenshot attached)

BTW, the patterns in item filter should be separated by semicolon, not by comma!kunkel321 wrote:Well.... Re: CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
Just to add to the just-above post of mine,
In XY, the number of pages info is shown in " 'Info panel' -> 'Meta' tag " for .doc and not for .docx files

Re: CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
Hmm Strange... I was sure I tried it both ways (as well as trying it with only PDF, only DOC, etc.)admin wrote:BTW, the patterns in item filter should be separated by semicolon, not by comma!
I just tried again though, using a Custom Col rather than the built-in, and it does indeed work--with PDF, DOC and DOCX.
Interestingly, one of my DOCX files was not getting calculated, but I opened it, did "Save As..." without changing anything, and saved it. It did calculate correctly after that. (not sure if the save as had any thing to do with it though).
Question: Is it possible to "call" these "properties" via Template or Script? I only ask because it would be nice to have the column suffixed with "Pages." For example instead of
Pages
======
12
1
45
The column would show
Pages
======
12 Pages
1 Pages
45 Pages
This is less important for a stand-alone column, but more important if it is integrated as part of a Mixed Column....

could you please share a screen shot what values you had put while creating the custom column

Re: CC property for number-of-pdf-pages?
Sure, using the <prop ...> variable. This should work (CC of type template):kunkel321 wrote:Question: Is it possible to "call" these "properties" via Template or Script? I only ask because it would be nice to have the column suffixed with "Pages."
