Optical Drive spin up on launch

I'm a big fan of apps that launch quickly. I notice that if I have a disc in my cd/dvd rom drive, it spins up when tracker launches. On my laptop, this whole process takes about 4-5 seconds, from when I launch tracker to when the window appears.

I know Explorer doesn't do this, so is there a way that you can just get the name of the volume w/o having the drive have to spin up? Ticky tack request, I know. But it's kinda annoying.

And I'm still holding hope for the icon overlays

Hmm, this has been an issue years ago and I solved it exactly the way you describe: getting the name w/o spin. And it does not spin as far as I see. Must be something with your optical drive. But since you say Explorer does it better... aaah ok, I see it (sorry for thinking while writing...). Question: what drive name (= caption of the tree node) does Explorer display for your optical drive? Can a medium have an individual name, and does Explorer display it?

Wait. Hmmmm. Seems like it doesn't have spin up issues with DVD's but it does with CD's. I tried putting in a DVD to get the volume name like you asked for and Tracker loaded up nice and quick. Then, right before I hit the submit button, I decided to try with a regular CD, and Tracker had to wait for the drive to spin up before it would even show. I'll try with a burned DVD later to see if that makes a difference.
