Don't like folders background coloring
This option
v24.80.0011 - 2023-08-16 11:37
>>> List | Details View: Experimentally, the background of folders is now colored light
brown. If you're looking for folders you came to the right place.
No options, just throwing it at you to get a reaction.
I don't like it because now the background of a list of folders is colored
but the rest of the list which contains files are black, as it should be.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
Well, that's the idea. What you don't like is exactly what it's there for.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
I like a constant black background.
That's one of my reasons to have a black theme.
What is the optical benefit you see in such half colored background ?

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
Immediately see what's a folder and what's a file without having to look at the icon.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
Folders are always on top and its icon is easily to identify.
Also, I have script (Button) to go to the newest file inside a pane
which means most of the time I don't look on the icons at all.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
Not for me. My date columns use mixed sort. I want the latest file on top.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
I have to agree with Horst. My folders are always on top also. I don't need a different background to tell me what's a folder. There may be some occasions where it might be useful for some to turn it on or off. I hope at some point it's optional feature which could be cycled on or off (Tools > Customized List).

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
From one perspective, i'm a user that always uses Modified for sorting and never uses "folders on top/sort folders apart", from other perspective i don't actually have a problem with differentiating folders and files.
It would be easier if revealed what is experiment exactly about. If it's a possible feature to be able to set background for folders to stand out compared to files, and that colour would be user-customizable - that would be good addition, yet it will allow to not spend colour filters for same task(if desired).

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
If you had started it as a tweak or optional
there would be no discussion about it from me

That way I got more reaction.
So far nobody seems to like it. But maybe you will get used to it. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

'Cause it's hardcoded On and no way to change the colour. Give people abilities and feature will find it's use and users.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
I don't like it either - FWTIW. I can sort-of see a use (for me) in using it as an emphasis on folders further down the hierarchy - but happy to have it as a possibility if it can be switched on and off like Tree colors.

Of course it will be optional and customizable. I just wanted to give you a chance to get addicted to it before you just turn it off.

Re: Don't like folders background coloring
I am the exception because I like it, I use color filter already to mark folders, because I like them to stand out. That's why I am not really a fan of the color change of the folder text, as anything but black makes the visibility a notch worse. However, a semi-boldness of the text could help.)
Actually I am just curious why not the color filter is enhanced, to make this possibility global by creating a style switch for coloring the whole row instead of the name column only. (Additionally, I would be really excited to see how a row could look like, for example, framed in full length.)
