I want to copy a large video file from a Seagate 2TB hard drive (mechanical, not SSD) to my laptop's C: drive over USB. It gets as far as preparing to copy, then it says it cannot find the file.
I have tried dragging and dropping from the external hard drive.
I have tried right-clicking, select Copy, and Paste in the target folder.
Both fail to copy.
VLC media player can scrub across the entire file and play any portion of the file. However, the feed from the external hard drive is too slow to play without stopping.
File history:
It's a ".MOV" file written by a Blackmagic Design Video Assist 3G-SDI/HDMI 7" Recorder/Monitor
to a 256 GB SanDisk SD card.
It was accidentally deleted, but nothing else was written to the card.
I used Wondershare RecoverIt (great product) to read the deleted file and place it on my external hard drive
a 2TB Seagate hard drive. The program reported no problems recovering the file.
The target folder is the C:\Users\MyName folder.
The operating system is Windows 11 Home.
There is 398GB of free space on C:\ (as reported by XYPlorer)
The file is 198,223,221 KB in the folder display.
XYPlorer's property tab shows
Size: 202,980,557,056 bytes
Size on disk: 202,980,557,280 (49,555,805 Clusters)
I would not be averse to being given a simple link to any discussion in the forum. I've searched it, but cannot find my issue.
At the moment, I am using the recovery software to restore the file from the SD card directly to the C:\ drive. It might work. However, I'd still like to know if there are any limitations or tricks with respect to using XYPlorer to copy files of that size.
Cannot copy large file from external hard drive.

Re: Cannot copy large file from external hard drive.
I would like to see the error message in a screenshot.
