Hi
I cannot preview quitime movies (*.MOV from digital Camera Nikon Coolpix 5200) in Xyplorer. It says "cannot decode". I have Quicktime Player installed.
Please advise
Thank for the advise.
IE 7 played the file. I have installed latest Klite codec pack 3.9.5. But preview still does start. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
GSpot gave an error
Rendering failed. DirestShow reported the error: 0x800004005 (Unknoown)

Hi and Welcome to XYplorer,
If you can preview your file in IE then XY should preview too. To check this, copy paste the filename and path to the .mov file into IE's addressbar and see if you can see it there.
While you can still see your file in quicktime, it could well be that the relevant codec is not registered properly. For many of us, a codec pack (K-lite mega codec pack in my case) has known to fix this problem.
Hope that helps.

Welcome to the XY forums from me also!
It's been quite a while since I last had problems with previews, but as I have a Nikon Coolpix 2200, I think I had somewhat similar issues.
I just checked and when I preview one of my Nikon MOV files, it invokes a helper application into tray called "ffdshow", which I somewhat recall I had to install to make it work. And it took me a bit of research to locate this 'thing', I seem to remember. Of course, I'm way back on W2K, but it still may be required.
From my Downloads folder, it shows that I got it from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm, but the version info from appl lists http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ in the help text.
Also, in the config for ffdshow, I have XY listed as one of the "Use only in" appl's.
Another appl that helps in this situation is something called "Gspot Codec Information Appliance" http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GSpot.htm, that examines an audio/video file and shows what codecs/filters are needed and/or used.
This showed me that MOV files go thru the ffdshow filter which (as I vaguely recall) is used to help split out the audio/video portions.
Hope this info helps!

Seems that we may not be able to can help you, which is really too bad, since if GSpot fails, then it's not just XY that is failing...and given that GSpot is a well known diagnostic tool, you're having some major issues...

I think it was "Videohelp" that pointed me to ffdshow.
